There are two different forms of the TOEIC: The Listening & Reading Test consisting of
two equally graded tests of comprehension assessment activities totaling a possible
990 score and the newer Speaking & Writing Test comprising tests of pronunciation,
vocabulary, grammar, fluency, overall coherence, and structure (organization of
sentences) totaling a possible 400 score. The Listening & Reading TOEIC is paperbased whereas the Speaking & Writing Test is Internet-based (iBT). In this webpage,
we will be confined to the Listening & Reading Test
You will hear some conversations between two people. You will be asked to answer
three questions about what the speakers say in each conversation. Select the best
response to each question and mark the letter (A), (B), (C), or (D) on your answer
sheet. The conversations will not be printed in your test book and will be spoken only
one time.
Part IV: Short Talks (10 talks, 30 questions)
You will hear some talks given by a single speaker. You will be asked to answer three
questions about what the speaker says in each talk. Select the best response to each
question and mark the letter (A), (B), (C), or (D) on your answer sheet. The talks will
not be printed in your test book and will be spoken only one time.
Reading
In the Reading test, you will read a variety of texts and answer several different types of
reading comprehension questions. The entire Reading test will last 75 minutes. There
are three parts. You are encouraged to answer as many questions as possible within
the time allowed.
Part V: Incomplete Sentences (40 questions)
A word or phrase is missing in each of the sentences below. Four answer choices are
given below each sentence. Select the best answer to complete the sentence. Then
mark the letter (A), (B), (C), or (D) on your answer sheet
Each candidate receives independent scores for listening and reading comprehension
on a scale from 5 to 495 points. The total score adds up to a scale from 10 to 990
points.
The TOEIC certificate exists in five colors, corresponding to achieved results:
orange (10219)
brown (220469)
green (470729)
blue (730859)
gold (860990)
12-25%
Because English-language skills may improve or decline over time, ETS Global and
Representatives will not re-issue score results if two years have passed since taking
the test.
How much does it cost to take TOEIC?
Fees are set by test centres. Expect to pay around $85 USD for each component
(Listening and Reading / Speaking and Writing).
