Issue Description
IRU 600 : No Power Supply Input Failure alarm on the IRU 600 high power RFU.
Removing the power supply brings up a TX Power Failure alarm, when the correct
description should be a input power failure, this may result in an incorrect diagnosis of
the real problem. If a TX Power Failure alarm is present, first check the RFU power
supply voltage.
RAC 60/6X: Protection, Offline RAC removal is not errorless with several capacities.
TDM traffic is hit when removing the off-line RAC with the following ETSI profiles
: 7MHz,13.75MHz and 27.5MHz.
RAC 60/6X: IRU600 30MHz/128QAM/OC3 : Protection switching times may exceed
200mS approximately 2% of switching occurrences. This is caused by the specific timing
of an RFU Alarm during switch cycles. Note that the total average switching time is
25ms.
ODU 300 SP: Tx Fail alarm comes up and RAC front panel LEDs go red when placed in
IF Loopback with SP ODUs EQS-XX-XXXX-XXX identified by the serial number

RAC 60/6X: ANSI ACM - User can enter ACM ATPC settings that will inhibit ACM from
stepping up to the maximum modulation. If the max TX power setting specified is higher
than the max TX power allowed at 256QAM, and the "Target Remote Fade Margin" is
greater than 10db, then a significantly greater RSL will be required before the
modulation will step up. Although the SNR is high enough to step-up, the system tries to
maintain the requested target fade margin at the expense of stepping up the modulation.
The consequence is that the link to never reach 256QAM. Solution is to configure the
ATPC settings for maximum Tx power at 256QAM and not the lower modulations.
Basic Security : When running software version 5.2 or earlier with the basic security
enabled (this requires a user name and password to login into Portal) if the software is
subsequently upgraded to version 5.04 or later the user needs to be aware that
passwords for "operator", "engineer", and "admin" user levels will be reset to default
values (port_op, port_eng, port-adm correspondingly) after the upgrade. Ensure the
security mode and passwords to are reconfigured to the desired values after the
upgrade. This is one time action. Further upgrades to subsequent software releases will
not reset passwords. Provision can be used to automate this reconfiguration process
across many radios if needed.
IDU GE3 16x: Protection - Tx and Rx, Ethernet and TDM switch on ODU Cable removal
can exceed 50ms (Average 90ms, Max 150ms)
RAC 60/6X: 1+1 ACM mode: In a 1+1 ACM setup, if the RX Online is separately faded to
DNL and the Offline Demod remains locked (using the Offline diversity data), removing
the Offline diversity RX Source (by ODU cable removal or RAC removal) does not result
in the Online RX stepping its modulation down so that it locks up. Therefore, traffic is
lost until the Online RX unfades enough to lock up at its current RX modulation, or the
connection to the Offline radio is restored.
ODU 600: 7MHz and 14MHz ACM profiles for RAC30A take errors and sync losses
DAC GEv2 / RWPR: RWPR protection fails when link is slowly faded and un-faded. If a
link is slowly faded then un-faded, prescribed RSTP forwarding and blocking action can
be unreliable where 'Rapid Failure Detection and Protection' is selected as the Transport
Channel Mode. This can be prevented by selecting 'Rapid Failure Detection' as the
Transport Channel Mode. Only use 'Rapid Failure Detection and Protection' for L1LA
and Adaptive Modulation operation.
IDU GE3 16x protected : When protection switches are performed the radio can get into
a situation with demod going in/out of lock (ANSI 40MHz max throughput profiles only,
especially 256 QAM). It is recommended that the 40MHz Max Throughput profile is not
used in a protected ACM configuration. The Max system gain profiles should be used
instead.
IDU GE3 16x profiles : Some will occasionally show a brief RX DNL or error burst at the
local RX if the local TX is unmuted when using the Tx Mute Diagnostic command. Seen
on 56MHz ACM: 256Q-MG, 256Q-MT profiles, but may affect others.
Rebooting the NCC with an NPC fitted can cause an outage on NCM Loop Switch
DAC GE3 / ERPS: Incorrect Node Status is displayed in signal failure condition. RPL
owner node displays "RPL-Blocked" during a signal failure condition ,although it is not
blocked and traffic still flows.
RAC60/6x: Traffic is not restored after re-inserting a protected RAC60/6x that has been
manually locked to "Tx online". Workaround is to not lock a RAC to "Tx online" with DPP
enabled in a hot unplug scenario as traffic will be affected. Lock both Tx and Rx to
online
L1LA DAC GE3 protected config: DACGE3 can drop frames for a short duration when it
comes back up after re-insertion
DAC GE3 : L1LA - Extended outages when switching between primary and secondary
GE3 cards. Typical switch times are : Manually switching between cards > 300ms,
When removing the online card >500ms, When inserting the primary card the times are
>1 Second, Inserting the secondary card does not have this issue, time is <2ms
DAC GE3: OAM is missing ME "Name String" after configuration Restore. The
Maintenance Endpoint (ME) Name text field is empty after a configuration Restore.
DAC GE3 : Sync-E as a source from port 5 is not supported in conjunction with the 2.5
Gbps protection cable.
IDU GE3 16x: ANSI 40 MHz 256QAM MT profile will not lock up in conjunction with
ODU 600.

DACGE3: ERPS w subring - Double failure of two links including RPL link and
interconnecting node causes traffic down for 5 mins after link is restored. Workaround is
to set hold off timer to 500mS .
In-band NMS: Portal allows the configuration of GE3 IP address when bridge and NMS
are both enabled
Ethernet protection fails to switch, when using an electrical-Y configuration on traffic
loss, protection cable loss or card removal, (100 Mbps only)
In band NMS does not work when DAC GEv3 is in slot 9. Slots 1-8 perform as expected
with NMS
DAC 155om to DAC GE3 circuits : Container alarms can be seen on power cycling and
configuration changes. Complete traffic loss is very occasionally observed when
changing the modes from E1 to DS1 and vice versa.
Alarms are cleared if the cards are unplugged and plugged
Loop Switch: After replacing a DAC DS3M card with an NCM, the NCM card is
recognized but never finishes to load software. Workaround is to insert a DAC16x into
the slot, and then replace it with an NCM
RAC 30V3 / RAC 30V2: When configuring a protected RF link using one RAC 30V3 and
one RAC 30V2 in a node, and where the nodes NCC card had previously held
configurations using RAC 60/6X/60E/60XE, it is occasionally seen that the RAC 30
protected pair becomes un-configurable in Portal. When this happens, the RF link fails to
come up, Portal disallows setting the Bandwidth / Modulation setting, and a
Configuration Not Supported alarm appears. The easiest field workaround is to replace
one RAC card in an affected protected pair so they are either both RAC 30V3 or both
RAC 30V2, then attempt configuration again.
RAC 30v3 to RAC 30A link: All DS1/ DS3 profiles and ETSI 3.5MHz 16QAM 10Mbps
(5E1) profile fail to operate and give a Link Down Alarm. All other 11 ETSI profiles that
are common between RAC 30V2 and RAC 30v3 function correctly.
Workaround is to not use these profiles on RAC 30V3 / RAC 30A links
NCM: The NCM ships with 07.03.xx software , if this module is inserted into a chassis
running earlier software such as 07.00.41 and then is upgraded to 07.03.32 or later the
NCM will fail to recover. The workaround is to upgrade the chassis to the latest 07.03
software before inserting the NCM
DAC GE3 : SSM over L1LA, after configuring a DAC GE3 / RAC60/6X in a L1LA
configuration it needs a power cycle before SSM operates correctly.
DAC GE3 / RAC60/6XE : L1LA does not function with 256 QAM Max Gain 50 MHz ANSI
profile.
Workaround , do not use this profile, 256 QAM Max Throughput 50 MHz ANSI is
operational
Policing: The default Ports on the Policer Rules are invalid when using protected /
aggregated GE3
L1LA: The Status LED of the NE or FE RAC becomes red after unplug/plug. No alarm is
generated in Portal. Not traffic affecting ,to resolve unplug and re-insert RAC card
ANSI 5 MHz profiles : Although 5 MHz ANSI profiles are selectable, they should not be
used as due to problems with DPP traffic.
IRU600 V3 and ODU600T Lower 6 GHz : QPSK power back off values are incorrect.
Workaround is to not set power levels above the published datasheet values.
AUX Module : When using an analog order-wire in a protected ring network, noise can
be introduced into the RS-422 Aux channel, if a link within the ring has a demodulator
not locked condition.
OBU/ODU 600T/STR 600: Upgrading from 07.02.48 or 07.02.45 to 07.03.40 is not
possible, also downgrading from 07.03.40 to 07.02.45 or 07.03.48 fails. Please do not
attempt this action. A new 7.03.xx release will be provided in late May to support STR
600. Contact Aviat customer services for further details if needed.
NCM Loop Switch: DS1 Trib errors in the NCM when used with a DAC 155om in slot 2
or 8. This issue has been seen when a chassis is fitted with both the NCM and DAC
155oM and they are fitted to either slot 2 or 8. The workaround is to not install NCM or
DAC155oM in slots 2 or 8.

RELEASE NOTES

White Paper

Important Considerations Before Upgrading Software

In this release there are several software upgrade and compatibility considerations that should be noted
and procedures followed to ensure a reliable upgrade with minimum traffic interruption as follows.
Portal : A PC with a pre 5.3 version of Portal will not be able to communicate with a radio
that has been configured for secure management (Basic or Strong), until it has
acquired a 5.3 version of Portal.
ES-14902
The easiest way to update to a 5.3 version of Portal is to connect your Portal PC
to an Eclipse radio running version 5.3, with its security setting configured to
"none".
Portal: This note applies to customers who run software version 5.1 or earlier with basic
security enabled (requiring a user name and password to login in Portal) and who
decided to upgrade to software version 5.4 or later. The customer shall be aware
that passwords for "operator", "engineer", and "admin" users will be reset to
default values (port_op, port_eng, port-adm correspondingly) after the upgrade. In
some cases security mode will be also turned to "Off".
ES-16214
This happens starting version 5.4 the way how Eclipse stores password has been
changed to meet more strict FIPS 140-2 security requirements.
Customer shall reconfigure security mode and passwords to desired values after
the upgrade.
This is one time action. Further upgrades to subsequent software releases will not
reset passwords.
Portal: Software 5.4 and later changed RADIUS server value for "View" permission. It is
important that customers upgrading from 5.3 to 5.4 update their RADIUS server user
ES-16346
accounts. Failure to update RADIUS server accounts will result in Eclipse denying PCR
data download for users, who have only "View" permission.

Eclipse NCC Compact Flash Card Capacity Upgrade Issues

With the introduction of software LA 7.1 and later, the embedded software portion will no longer fit onto a
pre week 31, 2009 32 Mb partitioned card, irrespective of the module load.
Please ensure that the notes below are followed before a software upgrade to 7.1 or above.
The Compact Flash (CF) card for Eclipse holds configuration, software load, and license data. It inserts into
the side of the NCC plug-in used with the INU/INUe.
New plug-in modules, such as the RAC 60, RAC 6X,DAC GE3 and NCM, CF cards with increased memory
capacity are required and in some case new NCC cards.
Prior to July 2009, 32 Mbyte was the available capacity for Eclipse use (this is the internal partition size
programmed into the CF), and all CF cards were partitioned 32 Mb regardless of the labelled total capacity
of the CF.
Since July 2009 INUs have been shipped with CF cards with a 128 Mbyte capacity (or higher), where the
labelled capacity is the available capacity for Eclipse use.
NCC cards manufactured before January 2008 do not support access to CF cards partitioned larger than
32Mbyte
Before installing RAC 60, RAC 6X or DAC GE3 in an existing INU you must first check to see if a
higher capacity CF card is needed, and if so, that the NCC will also support the higher capacity CF.

Compact Flash Capacity

If newer modules such as the RAC 60E, RAC 6XE, DAC GE3 or NCM are installed in INUs with a 32 Mbyte
CF, FPGA loading problems are likely to be reported as a result of insufficient CF capacity. The problem
will be reported as an FPGA software load failure alarm.
INUs fitted with newer modules will require an un-partitioned CF card
If these cards are to be installed in an INU with a 32 Mbyte CF, the CF must first be replaced with a unpartitioned ,higher capacity CF.
32 Mbyte CF cards can be determined from their serial number those with serial numbers prior to
LLF0931*, LLG0931*, LLB0931*, or LLT0931* are not suitable.
The serial number is printed on the CF and is also viewable in the Portal Licensing screen.
Replacing the CF means the license serial number for the INU will change the CF serial number is the
terminal license number.

RELEASE NOTES

White Paper

When ordering a replacement CF, the licensed capacity plus any feature license(s) held on the existing CF
must be included with the order for the replacement. It is recommended that new NODE Based licenses
are used.

Compact Flash Compatibility with NCC

NCC cards manufactured before January 2008 will not operate correctly with CF cards that have an
available capacity greater than 32 Mbyte.
Where the CF is to be replaced to allow INU operation with newer modules, you must also check to see if
the NCC will support its use.
Compatible NCC modules are those with revision numbers equal to or higher than those shown in the table
below. Compatible NCCs can also be identified by an A label on the flash card holder. Supply
commenced in January 2008.

Scheduling Software Upgrades

Software updates should be activated during a maintenance window when a traffic outage can be
managed.
Traffic may be affected when upgrading software between two specific versions of software.
Modules that have updated FPGA software will suffer a momentary loss of traffic. The use of
Provision feature 'Scheduled Activation' to preload software, and schedule upgrades at low traffic
times of the day will help minimize disruption. Contact an Aviat Networks Technical Help Desk for
details, contact details are on page 2 of these release notes.
When upgrading software ensure the remote end of a link is upgraded before the local end.
