pubis body width it was also relatively easy to find as we used the calipers
to find the length as we put both ends of the caliper on the pubis body, then
made it so that there is no space to tighten it more to get its size in
millimeters by looking at the point that the calipers indicate. Finding the
shape of the pelvic cavity is easy as u just have to look at it from an
overhead view to determine its shape. To find the the shape of the eye orbit
the and the upper edge of eye orbit was fairly easy as we had to look and
feel it to see whether it is blunt or sharp or round and square. To find the
data for the skull was fairly easy as we just had to feel and observe the
skull. To find the nasal measurements we had to use calipers to measure
the nose for both the height and width of the nose. To find the index of it we
had to divide the height of the nose from the width of it. To find the data of
the femur we had to use the calipers to measure the head of it and the
condyles. To find it overall height we had to use large calipers as the small
one didnt measure that high but using it was the same as the small
calipers. To find the data of the humerus the same was done to the
humerus as to the femur
Findings Melvin:
The two victim that were found was a male. Based on the bones
provided, we have found which belonged to which person. The pelvis found
on the crime scene belonged to a male. This conclusion was made
because the pelvis cavity shape is more heart shaped than circular. This
means that the person could not bare a child. Also the ilium, ischium, and
pubis bones are not fully ossified and you can tell this because you can see
signs of epiphyseal unions so this means that the victim had to be around
19 years old. The epiphyseal unions are the spaces between the bones
and as you get older, your bones form together. Also the skill that was
found in the scene is believed to be a male because the Mandible Shape is
more U- shaped instead of being V-shaped like a females. Also the frontal
Bone is slanted leading to be male.
Conclusion Carolyna: In conclusion, figuring out what gender and age and
race the bones were was challenging that we even got mixed results with
the sex of the pelvis. At first my partners and I found results thinking that
the pelvis was a female, however the pelvis was male due to the fact that
the male sacrum touched the coccyx.
