Identification of Learning Problem and Needs Assessment

The target audience for my Face-to-Face workshop is a group of 3 rd grade teachers at Banks
County Elementary School. These teachers are responsible for teaching a wide variety of subject. Their
classes contain gifted students as well as students with learning disabilities. The learning problem
identified with this group of teachers was that they do not know how to use Google Forms effectively.
They also were not aware that Flubaroo, which is an automatic grading add-on, would grade assessments
given using Google Forms. Information was gathering using a needs assessment and through interviews
to gauge the current level of understanding regarding Google Forms and Flubaroo and their use in the 3 rd
grade teachers classrooms.
It was indicted through interviews with both the media specialist at Banks County Elementary
School and the Instructional Lead Teacher at Banks County Elementary School that the third grade
teachers needed professional development regarding their ability to use Google Apps, and particularly
Google Forms for formative assessment purposes. It was also indicated in the interview that the teachers
did not know what Fluabroo was and that it will automatically grade Google Forms.
A needs assessment was conducted where surveys were distributed to the 3 rd grade teachers to
gauge their level of understanding using Google Forms and Flubaroo. The needs assessment showed that
the teachers were not familiar with Google Forms or Flubaroo. They were aware of what a Google Form
is, but most had never made a Google Form before. One workshop participant indicated that she had
created several and was comfortable using Google Forms. All of the workshop participants indicated that
they had never heard of Flubaroo and were not aware of the function of Flubaroo.
Needs Assessment to Gauge Prior Understandings.
Question #1: Have you ever created a form using Google?
Answer Choice 1: Yes I have created more than 3 Google Forms. 12.5%

Answer Choice 2: Yes I have created 1-3 Google Forms. 37.5%

Answer Choice 3: I have never created a Google Form. 50%
Question #2: What is your level of understanding /of Google Forms?
Answer Choice 1: I am an expert with Google Forms. 0%
Answer Choice 2: I am very comfortable with Google Forms. 12.5%
Answer Choice 3: I am somewhat comfortable using Google Forms. 37.5%
Answer Choice 4: I am somewhat uncomfortable using Google Forms. 12.5%
Answer Choice 5: I am very uncomfortable using Google Forms. 12.5%
Answer Choice 6: What is a Google Form? 25%
Do you know what Flubaroo is in relation to Google Forms?
Answer Choice 1: Yes, and I have used it before. 0%
Answer Choice 2: Yes, but I have never used it. 0%
Answer Choice 3: No. 100%
These results indicate that the workshop participants are unfamiliar with the basic functions of
Google Forms. They also are totally unfamiliar with the automatic grading tool called Flubaroo. The goal
of this unit of instruction is that participating teachers will be able to independently construct a Google
Form for a formative assessment and understand how to grade it using the Flubaroo add-on.
Task Analysis
For this unit of instruction, I have completed a procedural analysis of creating a Google Form and
grading it using Flubaroo. I will serve as the SME because I have experience using both of these tools.

Instructional Objectives
Objective #1
Participants will locate the Google Form icon and create a new Google Form.
Objective #2
Participants will create questions and properly share the Google Form once it has been completed.
Objective #3
Participants will download and understand how use Flubaroo to grade assessments.

Assessments
My first assessment asks participants to reflect on this session and answer several multiple choice
questions designed to measure retention of material presented during the workshop. Each question is
aimed at a specific objective and will measure the level of understanding pertaining to each objective.

My second assessment is to observe the participants making a simple assessment using Google
Forms. I will walk around the room and answer questions and observe the participants making a simple
form dealing with some of the content they teach. I will give them advice and answer questions as I walk
around the room.

1. Participants will take a short pre-instruction quiz that will be used later to demonstrate
Flubaroo.
In this step I will introduce myself and ask the participants to use the devices they
brought with them to access the quiz on my website. This quiz will both allow me to gather preassessment data and give the workshop some results to work with when I introduce Flubaroo
2. Discuss and model how to access Google Forms and create a new form (not from template).

In this step the participants will watch and follow as I lead them through the step of
access Google Forms from their email accounts. Once we have open the Google Forms app, I will
instruct and they will follow me through creating a new form and not using one of the templates
available.
3. Instruction and modeling on adding and form questions and changing question types.
Participants will watch me model the steps of starting a new questions and choosing the
question type. I will also add answer choices. They will then do this step on their own.
4.

Instruction and modeling on changing formatting of questions and order of questions.

In this step I will show students how to change question types after a question has been
made. I will also show them how to move the questions on the page. They will copy this
behavior.

5. Instruction on inserting pictures or videos into Google Form.

This step will be comprised of my showing the students how to insert pictures and videos
into the question on their Google Form. This will not do this step because it could take too long.
6. Observe participants constructing questions.
After instruction participants will be asked to make 1 or 2 additional questions. During
this time, I will move around the room and observe. I will also give tips and advice to anyone
who is struggling and gauge their understanding.
7. Instruction on changing sharing settings, creating response spreadsheet, and sharing Google
Form.
During this step of instruction, I will show the students how to locate the share settings
create a spreadsheet for the responses, and then share the form itself.

8. Instruction on locating Flubaroo in Google Web Store.

I will model locating and downloading Flubaroo. They will not model this behavior
because of slow internet speeds for downloading.
9. Describe and model process of grading using Flubaroo.
Next I will model and describe the process of using Flubaroo to grade assignments. I will
use the results from the quiz at the beginning of instruction. I will show the steps and then grade
the assignment.
10. Complete post-instruction assessment.
During this step the participants will be asked to complete an assessment. This
assessment will assess their level of understanding towards the objectives and instructional goal
introduced at the onset of instruction.
11. Complete post-workshop evaluation.
Participants will be asked to fill out an evaluation form on the effectiveness of the
workshop. The results will be used to evaluate my performance and instruction.

Feedback for the learners will be provided during
the workshop as they work through creating a few
questions. I will also continue to communicate
with participants as they try and implement

7. Differentiation/UDL

The instruction given will be modeled so that

different levels of learners can see each step.
Instruction will be broken into pieces to allow
time for participants to ask clarifying questions.
The instruction will also be available online
through an online module if the participants need
additional resources or learn more effectively
through that medium.
