Network Setting Guide

Thank you very much for your purchase of Mimakis product.


This Network Setting Guide provides you with the setting method of NetworkConfigurator, the tool to perform
network setting of Mimakis product that is compatible with network.
While NetworkConfigurator is saved on Manual CD bundled, please download the updated information from our
website (http://eng.mimaki.co.jp/download/).

About network connection of Mimakis product


Set the function to send e-mails to the set e-mail address when events such as cutting start/ end and stop due
to an error.
Though you can set from the main body of the printer/ the plotter, you can set easily via the attached software
[NetworkConfigurator].

Prepare the printer/ the plotter


Prepare the printer/ the plotter by following the procedures below:

1. Connect LAN cable with the printer/ the plotter.

For details, refer to the operation manual of your printer/ plotter.

2. Turn on the power supply of the printer/ the plotter.

For details, refer to the operation manual of your printer/ plotter.

Prepare NetworkConfigurator
Check that the attached software [NetworkConfigurator] has been ready for use.
NetworkConfigurator is dedicated for Windows.
.NET Framework 3.5 and later is required.
Do not perform setting from multiple NetworkConfigurators to one main body at the same time.

You can also start it from the launcher of CD-ROM.

Select the printer/ the plotter whose network setting you want to edit and double-click on it or,
click the [Select] button.
When you terminate NetworkConfigurator, click the [Exit] button.
When you start this application, the list of printers/ plotters on the same one network address is
created automatically.
In the list, [Machine Name/ Serial No./ IP address (Now)] are displayed.
If the target printer (plotter) is not displayed in the list, click the [Research] button several times at
regular intervals.
When you specify the printer with different network address, enter the IP address of the printer in
the [Direct Address] column and click the [Connect] button.
If the address displayed in the list differs from the network IP address assigned to the PC, it is
not displayed in the Machine List. Use [Direct Address] or use the machine in the network with the
same network address as the printer/ the plotter.

4. Set the network.

Perform the setting below based on information provided by the in-house network administrator
or the person who configured LAN environment.
(1) Perform the setting related to your network environment, the e-mail server and the e-mail
function.
(2) Click the [Commit] button.

The item that you cannot set is grayout.

If you are unsure what to set, put a check in


DHCP and AutoIP.

For "Sender Mail Address", input the e-mail


address of the sender. If the sender e-mail address
is invalid, an e-mail might not be sent.

If you are unsure what to set, ask your provider, LAN manager, or the person who
installed your router.

Network Settings
After you change the setting, restart the printer/ the plotter.
Machine Name
: The machine name of the main body is displayed. You cannot edit the string.
(Currently, it is not available. It will become available in the future firmware
version upgrade.)
Allocate IP Address : Select whether you use DHCP or AutoIP to allocate the IP address. The
allocation operation is performed in order of priority below:
(1) DHCP (Allocates from the DHCP server existing on the network.)
(2) AutoIP (Address 169.254.***. *** is allocated. The gateway does not exist.)
(3) Manual setting (Manually set IP Address, SubnetMask, Gateway and DNS
Server.)
e.g.) When you enable DHCP: Check DHCP.
When you enable AutoIP: Uncheck DHCP and check AutoIP
When you enable manual setting: Uncheck both of DHCP and AutoIP
IP Address(Info)
: Regardless of the IP address allocation method, the current valid IP address is
displayed. (You cannot edit it.)
IP Address(Setting)
: When you set the IP address manually, enter the valid IP address.
Subnet Mask(Setting) : When you set the IP address manually, enter the subnet mask of the network to
use in CIDR. Available numbers are 8 to 30.
Gateway (Setting)
: When you set the IP address manually, enter the address of the gateway.
DNS Server(Setting) : When you set the IP address manually, enter the address of the DNS server.

Mail Server Settings


Enter information provided by the Internet provider and the in-house network administrator. If there is no
information, you cannot use the e-mail function.
SMTP Server Address : Enter the e-mail server name to use. You can enter up to 40 characters.
SMTP Port No.
: Enter the e-mail server port number to use. You can enter the number between 1
to 65535.
POP3 Server Address : Enter the POP server address to use. You can enter up to 40 characters.
User Account
: Enter the user account of e-mail to use for authentication. You can enter up to 30
characters. (In some cases, it is indicated as User ID or User Name.)
User Password
: Enter the password of e-mail to use for authentication. You can enter up to 15
characters.
Authentic Method
: Select the authentication method.
[SMTP Auth./POP before SMTP/OFF]
In addition, when you use APOP, select APOP.

Event Mail Settings


Enter the notification items required for you, the target e-mail address and the e-mail title when you use
Event Mail. For the contents of each notification, refer to the event mail function explanation page of the
operation manual of the main body.
Event Mail Function : When you use the event mail function, check this. If you do not check it, event
mail is not sent at all.
Print Start
: When drawing of the printer function starts, the event mail is sent.
Print End
: When drawing of the printer function ends, the event mail is sent.
Plot or Cut Start
: When drawing of the plotter (including cutting) function starts, the event mail is
sent.
Plot or Cut End
: When drawing of the plotter (including cutting) function ends, the event mail is
sent.
Error
: When an error occurs, the event mail is sent.
Warning
: When a warning occurs, the event mail is sent.
Other
: When the notification items other than above occur, the event mail is sent.
Send to Address
: Enter the target e-mail address. You can enter up to 96 characters.
Mail Title
: Enter the string to use for the title of the event mail. You can enter up to 8
characters.
Sender Mail Address
Set the e-mail address to use as the sender of the e-mail. Set it with alphanumeric
characters and symbols within 64 characters.

Test Mail Transmit button


Sent a test e-mail to check the setting value below. After you click the button, check the receiving result.
If the test e-mail cannot be received...
it is possible that you made mistakes for the setting items or the environment is not available. Contact the
in-house network administrator.
In some cases, an error occurs at sending. You can check the error code by using the test e-mail sending
function of the printer/ the plotter main body.

Reload button
Receive the setting value from the printer again and reflect them on the screen. The password is not read
in.

Save to file button


Save the setting information displayed on the screen in the file. Save it as a new file by following the
instruction on the screen. Do not use the extension [.ini]. Do not overwrite the contents of the saved setting
file. The password is not stored.

Load from file button


Read the setting file saved with the [Save to File] button. When reading has been completed, the setting
cannot be reflected on the main body. After the setting has been confirmed, register the setting by clicking
the [Commit] button. No change is made for the password.

Commit button
Transfer the setting value displayed on the screen to the printer/ the plotter and enable the setting. If nothing is input in the password, no change is made for the password.

Exit button
Terminate this screen and return to the screen to select the printer/ the plotter.

The notification by the event mail function may not be delivered due to Internet environment, failure of the

If it has not been installed, install it. You


can get it from Windows Update.

Was NetworkConfigurator.exe
deleted by antivirus software?

In some cases, antivirus software may


detect it as a virus by mistake. Try from
other PC, or, perform setting in the main
body and inform the call center of the
antivirus software name and version/
pattern file version.

Check that the version of


NetworkConfigurator is not old.
You can download the latest version

Is the device's firmware version old?

Upgrade to the latest firmware version.

Is the power supply of the machine


main body turned on?

If the power supply is not turned on, turn it


on.

Is network cable connected with the


main body firmly?

If network cable is not connected firmly, be


sure to connect it firmly with the main
body.

Is network cable connected with the


PC firmly?

If network cable is not connected firmly, be


sure to connect it firmly with the PC.

Is the power supply of the devices such


as HUB in the connecting path turned
on?

If the power supply is not turned on, turn it


on. In addition, check that cable is
connected firmly.

Is the connecting destination of LAN


cable correct?

If the connecting destination of LAN cable


is not correct, change it.

Is there loop wiring in the connected


LAN?

If there is loop wiring in the connected


LAN, remove it.

If there are multiple network interfaces


in the PC, is the network address of the
interface that communicates with the
machine the same as that of the
machine?

Assign the IP address of the same


network address as the machine to the
interface that communicates with the
machine.

Is the IP address of the same network


address assigned to the PC assigned
to the main body?

Only the same network address can


communicate. Use the machine with the
same network address as the PC by
turning ON the DHCP setting of the main
body, or with Direct Address.

Does the firewall of the PC cut UDP:


8002, TCP: 11110 and TCP: 11111?

Register NetWorkConfigurator.exe or
UDP: 8002, TCP: 11110 and TCP: 11111 in
the exception of the PC firewall.

Is there a router or a firewall in the


middle of communication path between
the PC and the printer?

If it exists, you cannot perform setting in


this application. Use the printer and the
PC in the same network address.

Are the machine and the PC far apart


on the network?

If the distance on the network is too far,


transmission cannot be performed.
Limit transmission to machines with the
same network address as much as
possible.

Application cannot
start.

The application closes


irregularly, or it does
not operate properly.

Not Found. is

box and you cannot
get the printer list.

Click the Research button several times.

Are there any problems of connection

Check the same items for NotFound.

Send a test mail in accordance with


"Test Mail Transmission" in this user's
manual, and check the error.

If an error code is displayed after sending


the test mail, refer to the error code in this
user's manual and remove the cause.
The error code list is written at the end of
"Test Mail Transmission".

Is the recipient e-mail address correct?


Is the sender e-mail address correct?
Is there a problem occurring in the email server?
Is there a problem occurring with the
Internet or on the network set by the
terminal receiving the e-mail?

If the recipient or sender address is wrong,


correct it
If you correct the recipient or sender
address but still cannot send the test mail,
check the operation of the server and
network.
If you are unsure what to set, ask your
provider, LAN manager, or the person who
installed your router.

If the defect other than the above occurs or the defect cannot be improved, contact to the call center.
