The First Reflection

This is the first reflection. It is about my first lesson I taught. The first lesson
plan was about My Favorite Food for the English subject. It was in the first
week of the teaching practicum. I taught the S section, which was the
original section for this practicum. The week I decided to teach them was the
last week in this unit. So, I made a revision for the vocabulary that children
learned it in My Favorite Food unit. I planned to use a character of their
book, which was Ms. Horsey, sketched the main and the differentiation
activities based on what did the pupils learned previously and in what this
book contain and mention of aspects of this theme.
During this lesson, first, I interduce myself to them also I demonstrated my
rules. Second, I explain to them about the good morning song, and I asked
them to stand up to preform it. Third, I asked them to sit on the floor as a
circle shape. They did not know how to set in a circle so. My MST said to me
set them in lines. They used to set in lines. After that, I started my lesson by
engaging them with the short story by using Ms. Horsey. Children were
involved, I asked them about each food picture's name. After reviewing the
vocabulary in orally and visually method, I started to explain the main
activity. I drew a basket, but the pupils could not understand the shape. So, I
used a real basket. I put Ms. Horsey puppet in my right hand, where is the
basket in my left hand. Ms. Horsey said what he bought from food from the
market and children raise their quiet fingers to put the food in the basket.
Next, I explained the differentiation activities, distributed them between the
groups according to their levels. The high-level pupils will draw their favorite
meal and pick one word they know relates to what they drew. The average
level pupils will draw their meals and explain it to me. While, the low-level
pupils will circle the first and the last letter in words and identify to these two
letters. Children did a good job. The differentiation activities were suitable for
each level. In the end, they gave me the work and went to the other class.
My strength was in planning, the differentiation activities, engaging and
managing. This what I saw and my MST said. Whereas, the weakness was in
the size of the cards and the time. The children needed more time in doing
the differentiation activities.
At the end of this lesson, some of the pupils could achieve the learning
objects and able to recognize the different food. Also, at the end of this
session the whole pupils could draw their favorite meals. The low level could
not describe it because their English spoken language was weak. Regarding
this, every one was creative. In my point view, I think that the low-level
group needs oral exercises to strong the second language, whereas the

others pupils need to recognize more written vocabulary. What do I need to

improve as a teacher is my techniques in teaching, the transition and my
performance in using the puppet? I must involve more in Ms. Horsey
character to attract children attention and enhance my teaching style.
Transition in dividing the students in the suitable group and activities.
To sum up, this lesson was good as a beginning, but it still needs a lot to
adjust.
