ROLE-PLAY POSITIVE EXAMPLES

Teachers: Demonstrate how to walk slowly and quietly into the Computer Lab. Demonstrate how to ask
for help. Demonstrate how to properly use the equipment. Demonstrate how to correctly clean up.
Demonstrate how to properly leave the computer lab.
Students: practice the entire process with the teachers guidance.

ROLE-PLAY NEGATIVE EXAMPLE

(Adults only role-play the non-examples.)
Teacher: Have a few staff members demonstrate inappropriate behavior: rushing into the Computer
Lab; talking loudly with friends; playing with the keyboard and earphones; touching the screen with dirty
hands; shouting out for help; rushing out of the computer lab without shutting down computer, pushing
in chair, etc

CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING (during lesson)

1. Review with the students why it is important to use clean hands on the computer/laptop, raise
hand for help, keep hands off the screen, and treat equipment with care.
2. Have students think/pair /share: Tell your neighbor the behavior expectations for the Computer
Lab. Teachers walk around to assess the students understanding and distribute stickers,
dolphin dollars and/or team points.

TEACHER FOLLOW-UP IN CLASSROOM (same day as lesson or next day)

(Use a different mode of teaching to reinforce what students have learned.)
1. Have students write a paragraph and or draw a picture to show what it means to be responsible,
respectful and safe in the Computer Lab.
2. Have students create a Thinking Map to show understanding of what it means to use clean
hands on the computer/laptop, raise hand for help, keep hands off the screen, and treat
equipment with care (circle map, multi-flow map, bridge map)

RE-TEACHING / BOOSTER LESSON PLAN IDEAS

(Be creative in using the lesson plans combined with various teaching modalities. Examples are
quizzes, fill in the blank games, bingo games, skits, video, think/pair/share, incorporating the 3 Bs
behavior expectations into your everyday curriculum, adding an expectation or behavior rule to the
Social Objective of a DI lesson, etc.)
