Sunday, November 20, 2016 - Thanksgiving Sunday

A PEEK AT THE SUNDAY SERMON

November 20th is Thanksgiving Sunday. Lets be honest, its easy to be thankful
when everything is going our way. When life is good, and things are smooth and
relaxed, its easy to give God thanks for the blessings.
But life isnt always smooth and relaxing. Our ever-changing world has made certain of
this! My sermon text is 1 Corinthians 1:4-9 and Ill be doing my best to present
reasons why we can be thankful during those not so good times in life. If you
prayerfully read this passage you will be ready for our Thanksgiving Sunday Morning
Worship Service! The title of the message is:

In Turbulent Times Thanksgiving.

4I

always thank my God for you and for the

gracious gifts he has given you, now that you
belong to Christ Jesus. 5 Through him, God has
enriched your church in every way with all of
your eloquent words and all of your
knowledge. 6 This confirms that what I told you
about Christ is true. 7 Now you have every spiritual
gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of
our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 He will keep you strong to
the end so that you will be free from all blame on
the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. 9 God
will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says,
and he has invited you into partnership with his
Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Pauls Thanksgiving and Prayer

Colossians 1:11-20 is the suggested daily Bible reading for Sunday, November 20th
(2016 U.C.C. Calendar). It contains the portion of a wonderful prayer from St. Paul.
Paul was the greatest Christian missionary ever! Pope Benedict XVI said that Paul
shines like a star of the brightest magnitude in the Churchs history. As a result
of his unselfish, sacrificial life we are in Dearborn proclaiming the Good News!

11 We

also pray that you will be strengthened with all his

glorious power so you will have all the endurance and
patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always
thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the
inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light.
13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and
transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who
purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
15 Christ

is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed

before anything was created and is supreme over all
creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the
heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can
see and the things we cant see such as thrones,
kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen
world. Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation
together. 18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his
body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the
dead. So he is first in everything. 19 For God in all his
fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him
God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with
everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christs
blood on the cross.

Paraments and altar linens are GREEN. Green symbolizes

the renewal of vegetation and generally of living things and
the promise of new life. Next week (November 27th) is the
First Sunday of Advent. The colors will change to Violet.

Mens Club Christmas Tree Fundraiser!

The trees arrive on Saturday, November 19th at 9:00 AM. We need help unloading the
truck. Lets get ready for this busy morning with some fellowship and food! A hot
breakfast will be served at 8:00 AM. Well assemble on the tree lot when the truck
arrives. Everything is in order (a big thank you to Pete Stacho) and with the help of
MANY it will be a snap setting up for our tree sales! See you then!

We are collecting non-perishable food items and gift cards

for some needy folks. In the spirit of Gods love, we
humbly serve those less fortunate and hope to ease their
burden (just a little) and allow them to experience Gods
grace.
Cans and boxes of food can be placed in the basket in the
sanctuary. This year, recipients will be a resident of Vista
Maria Foster Care and a client at the Lennon Pregnancy
Center. Baskets will be delivered Tuesday, November
22nd.
I hope this newsletter found you well and blessed. See you Sunday at 10 AM!
