1.Why is the HR department playing a more significant role in organizational strategic
planning processes today than it did 20 years ago?
Today HR department is all about strategic planning. HR trend is driven by both global market
and from stockholders, which results in productivity and profitability. Plus, HRM activities are
now considered as profit center rather than a cost center. Although 20 years ago HR
department was more into record keeping that handled paperwork and was performed role of
Admin Department. HR objectives were about better performance but today it is about improved
understanding and strategic use of human assets.
2.Why is it correct to conclude that all managers are involved in the human resource
management function and implementing HRM activities and programs?
HR managers are responsible for generating and distribution of all HR activities and solutions. It
is the duty of line managers and supervisors to enforce these policies on day to day basis.
Without these managerial participations there will be major issues that will cause organization
from achieving its goals. The implementation of HR policies can lead to betterment of
employees productivity.
3.How has increased globalization influenced the way HRM is practiced in the United
States?
HR specialists and practitioners have the ability to determine up-coming HR practices of other
countries to see if they can be adjusted in US organizations structure and policies. In
organizations there is a diversified cultures belonging from different ethical and cultural
background, thus they have to see all issues of related to HR policies in the light of multi-cultural

nature of workforce. Globalization has a positive impact in US, as many people around the globe
represent their countries and the strategies have been implemented accordingly.
4.Why has the HRM function increased in stature and influence in many organizations?
The HR functions was just a formality unit and was working as an administration until the upper
management realized the role of people in organizations development. Today, recruitment,
selection, compensation, administration is adopted by each and every functional unit of an
organization. HR policies and activities have major influence in the growth of organization.
5. In your opinion, which of the HRM functions appears to be the most challenging to
implement? Why?
In my opinion, most the difficult job is to implement HR policies within an organization. New
HR policies are difficult for the employees to adapt, thus it creates problems in organizations
productivity and communication within the employees. To prevent these issues in an
organization, training should be provided within an organization. Training will enhance overall
organizations communication which will lead to achieve organizational goals.
6. What difficulties would an HRM executive face in assessing and then communicating the
contribution of his or her area to the company profit margin?
HR executive plays a vital role in an organization, thus they should know organizational
structure and should educate other employees of the company. It is very difficult to asses his/her
contribution to the company profit margin. No amount can be placed over compliance and
employee satisfaction. Other factors such as absenteeism and employee turnover can be
measured. In most of the organization, effectiveness related to profit margin is calculated by
employee retention and goals achieved.

7. The text proposes that Peter Drucker is incorrect when he states that work in HRM is
nothing more than the work of a file clerk. What has happened in the world of work to
make his statement false?
Peter Drucker is incorrect when he states that HRM work is just file clerk, because these days
HR is concerned with much more than just record keeping. Organizations have recognized the
role of the people, which has resulted in integration HR strategies in an organization. Therefore,
it is said that HR plays a significant role in identifying organizations problems and providing
solutions for them.
8. Why is it necessary for the HRM area to clearly communicate to employees human
resource policies?
Communicating HR policies with an organization is crucial for them to meet strategic
development. If any organization does not provide clear HR policies to its employees that
organization might slip from its long term goals. On the other hand, HR department should help
the high level management in making policies more effective which can contribute towards over
all mission and goals of an organization.
9. Why should even very small firms (with 10 to 100 employees) be concerned about HRM?
Even very small firms with 10 to 100 employees need to have HR department due to recruitment,
selection, retention, health and safety. When it comes to Human resource of a company these
factors are everywhere no matter if it is small or large company.

10. What do you think about Don Brokops decision to accept the position of assistant
director in HR?
It is probably correct for Don to accept the new position. Although he does have experience in
managing human resource but he might not be a right fit if we look at his education, which might
lead him to stress in learning about HR policies and procedures. Although Don loves to deal with
people and solving their problem.
