SmartAX MA5612 and MA5616

Huawei SmartAX MA5612 and MA5616 are leading remote Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) products,
which provide various types of ports on the Passive Optical Network (PON) and meet multiple service
requirements. These products mainly apply to Fiber To The Curb (FTTC) and Fiber To The Building
(FTTB) scenarios. In addition, they can satisfy some private line access requirements. Huawei MA5612
and MA5616 feature wide temperature range, low power consumption, silent design, high-density
access, reliable performance, and energy savings, and can be installed in multiple scenarios, such as
the desk, corridor, and cabinet.

Application Scenarios
Family broadband service scenario: In the upstream direction, the MA5612 connects to the optical line terminal (OLT) through the
gigabit passive optical network (GPON). In the downstream direction, the MA5612 connects to a PC by using the category-5 cable
to provide high-bandwidth broadband, voice, and video services and connects to a telephone by using twisted pairs to provide plain
old telephone service (POTS) services.
Enterprise leased line scenario: For a traditional private branch exchange (PBX) and router, the MA5612 provides a TDM E1 port to
transmit leased line services to the OLT by using the native TDM technology. The MA5612 also provides a primary rate interface (PRI)
that converts E1 frames transmitted by the PBX to Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) or H.248 packets and transmits them to the OLT.
For an IP PBX and router, the MA5612 provides an FE or GE port to transmit leased line services to the OLT by using the virtual local
area network (VLAN) transparent transmission technology.
The MA5616 provides two GPON or GE uplink ports and provides multiple services by supporting flexible board configurations. The
MA5616 provides broadband, voice, and video services through ADSL2+/ VDSL2/FE boards, voices service through POTS boards,
leased line services through SHDSL or P2P boards.

Highlights
High-density access: An MA5616 supports a maximum of 256 POTS users, 128 ADSL2+ users, 192 VDSL2 users, or 64 FE users.
Flexible service configuration: Service boards can be inserted in any slot. Various types of ports can be flexibly configured
for multiple application scenarios. In addition, combo boards are supported, which effectively improve access density, save
equipment room space, and simplify cabling.
Support for multiple clock synchronization technologies, such as synchronous Ethernet, E1 line clocks and GPON line clocks.

 Perfect voice features, supporting basic services (voice service, fax service, and modem service) and supplementary services
(three-way calling, call waiting, call transfer, calling line identification presentation, and calling number restriction)
Efficient Operation, Administration, and Management (OAM): The MA5612 and MA5616 support remote configuration
delivery and, therefore, do not require on-site commissioning. In addition, they support plug and play, remote monitoring, and
maintenance functions.
Plug-and-play (PnP) service provisioning: The MA5612 allows remote issuing of configuration. A management channel and service
channel are created after the MA5612 is powered on and registers successfully. Manual onsite configuration is not required.
High reliability: The MA5612 and MA5616 supports the working temperature from -40C to 65C, 6 kV lightning protection,
and corrosion-proof design of boards.
Energy saving: Huawei reduces system power consumption via efficient power supplies, reduces power consumption of idle
boards by supporting intelligent fan speed adjustment, reduces chip power consumption using high-performance chips, and
reduces port power consumption by supporting POTS short-loop design.
