SINGTE.UNIT MERCURY LUMINAIRES

4OO AND IOOO WATTS

4OO WATTS

Mercury luminaires are recommended

where low maintenance costs with long

life between lamp changes is the primary
consideration. 400-watt units are well
shielded for low brightness in the normal viewing zones and can be applied in

low or high mounting height applications, 1000-watt units are generally applied at higher mounting heights where
more light output per luminaire can be
utilized efiectively.

Ambient temperature ratings are based

on operating the complete luminaire in

still air conditions.

The recommendations and advantages of mercury vapor

single unit luminaires apply equally to twin units, since the
optical assemblies are identical. A twin unit offers the economy of a two-lamp integral ballast power pack and two optical assemblies. Compared with single units of the same rating, twins will produce an equivalent foot-candle level with
12 the number of luminaires; thus, the advantage of lower
costs for equipment and installation plus lower maintenance
costs with fewer luminaire locations to service. Compared
with single units of higher wattage rating, twin units have
the advantage of lower brightness associated with the smaller
light source (for example, single 1000-watt vs twin 400-watt
unit).

The high reflectance, durability, and cleanability of GE's

ALGLAS reflector provide higher maintained output per
luminaire than is normally obtained from open units. Because
of the extra smoothness of the surface, the reflector stays
cleaner-since dirt and stains are less likelv to adhere. And
when cleaning must be performed, the ALGLAS reflector is
restored to peak reflectance with minimal effort-as easily
as cleaning glass.

FILTERGLOW sealed luminaires

INSTATTATION
Filterglow units are designed for fast installation. They include factory-tested integral ballast power pack and complete

optical assembly with all hardware needed for rigid conduit

installation. Lamp may be installed before luminaire is hung.
Detachable top cover threads directly to rigid conduit, Once
in place, service wires are puiled through and the luminaire
hung. The top cover supports the luminaire while electrical
connections are made. Chances of damage during installation
are reduced because the electrician never needs to balance
the full weight of the luminaire. Both his hands are free most
of the time.
Where busway mounting or other pendent-type plug-in arrangements are desired, optional accessories in separate prewired assemblies are available.

bracketsl omit the others.
2, Specify desired characteristics where indication is to specify.
The complete luminaire shall be GE Filterglow Cat. No.
(specily) or approved equal, to operate (one/two) (4OO/10OO)watt (Mercuty/Lucalox) lamp(s) from a nominal (specily 120-'
208-,24O-,277-,480-) volt, 60-cycle power source. The luminaire

shall include an integral ballast power pack and complete optical

system with IES spacing-to-mounting height ratio (specily).

Construction of the luminaire shall tre suitable for industrial

service indoors in ambients up to (40/55/65) C. The ballast
housing and structural parts shall be of cast aluminum, with the
housing having a top cover detachable without the use of tools.
Each luminaire shali include necessary hardware for mounting

1o t/a-inch rigid conduit and connection to three awg No. 14 or

No. 16 conductors.
A split hinge shall permit hanging of the luminaire to the top
cover while wite connections are made in a self-contained wiring
compartment. A heavy-duty toggle latch shall be provided to
secure luminaire in normal operating position. The optical system
shall provide up-light and be enclosed, dustproof, using EPT
rubber gasketing to form an airtight seal. The sealed optical system shall permit free exchange of filtered air through activated

POWR/BRACKET@ TUMINAIRES
Powr/Bracket luminaires are streamlined private lighting

units that are all assembled and prewired, and include builtin ballast, Astrodome@ photoelectric control, mercury lamp,
hardware and wire. They are ideally suited for lighting industrial yards and such other outdoor work areas as shipping
and receiving docks. Powr/Bracket luminaires are easily and

quickly mounted on wood or metal poles or on walls. To

install on wal1, just attach an adapter, put in two more bolts,
and attach two leads. Pole mounting is even easier. A11 major
electrical components are mounted on the drop-down door
for easy access.

QUARTZ.FTOOD@ FTOODLIGHTS
QF-500A and QF-1000.4' floodiights are designed for applications requiring a wide horizontal and relatively narrow vertical beam spread. Applications include industrial yards, building facades, protective lighting, signs, and poster panels.
The clean-line design, compact size, and light weight of these
units enhance the appearance of an instaliation and minimize
therwind loading on poles and other mounting arrangements.
