Mercury vapor lamps provide more light per dollar

than any filament lamp of the same wattage

The useful life of General Electric's new "Bonus

Line" 175-watt mercury vapor lamps is approximately 12,000 hours . . . 6 times that of a 189watt filament lamp. Longer lamp life results in
lower total operating costs: filament lamps must
mercury vapor
be replaced 2 times a year
lamps only once every three years. Each mercury installation saves many dollars per year
by reducing the number of service calls necessary to group replace filament lamps.
The lumen output of mercury vapor lamps is
much higher, per watt, than that of filament,
175-watt mercury vapor lamps are rated at 7000
189-watt filament lamps-only
lumens
2500 lumens.

This higher luminous efficiency means lower

operating costs. For example, a 175-watt mercury luminaire, when spaced 240 feet from another, can give more light on a residential street
than lwo 189-watt filament units.
Even when compared to larger filament units,
mercury vapor units do a better lighting job
. and much more economically.

potterns

Luminaires providing a four-way distribution pattern are sometimes used at intersections, especially
when there is a pole located on (or within 5-10
feet) a corner. The luminaire is supported on a
long bracket set on a diagonal to permit the projection of light up and down both of the intersecting streets. With four-way luminaires used at
intersections, one or more two-way luminaires are
then located between intersections,
If the same size lamp is used in all luminaires,
the spacing between the two-way luminaires may
be increased about 6O-70/6 over that between a
four-way and two-way luminaire. If the spacing is
kept the same, a larger lamp should be used in
the four-way luminaire in order to maintain proper
