In chapter 4 it talks about early childhood educators need to have communication, form
good relationships, good work ethics, and need to behave ethically. There are three components
that educators need they are communication and relationship, moral and ethical behavior, and
behaving ethically. The first component is communication and relationship; this is built on
relationship and reciprocal relations of responsive caring and concern with children and their
families. The five ways to good communication and relationships is respect is fundamental,
relationships with children and families, and written communication.
The first communication and relationship is respect is fundamental; respect is based on
belief that every human being has value and deserve to be appreciated. We often hear the term to
describe certain people of their position, age, gender, class, or professional status. Sociologist
Sarah Lawrence-Lightfoot explores the lives of professionals who create relationship with
respect, she forces on symmetry, empathy, and connection in all kinds of experience. Respect for
ourselves, for other people, and for all forms of life doesnt happen in one day or hours, it takes
time for children and even adults to gain or get the respect for others.
The second communication and relationship is relationship with children and families;
relationship with children help them feel safe from fear of physical or psychological harm.
Building relationship and communication takes time and skill in order for the child to feel safe.
Here are some ways to use your skills to get a good relationship and communication and they are
getting down to their level to speak or listen to them, pay attention to their words, tone and their
physical interaction like body movement.
Also communication with the families is also essential; it is important to communication
with the families and develop a good working relationships with the families because it helps the
child when the educator and families are working together. It also important to have

communication with the families to help share your concern, listening to their words and
feelings. The last communication and relationship is written communication; the educators write
to the families who cant get in touch with them face to face to let them know how their child is
doing, events that they are doing at the child school and also program activities. But educators
have to be careful with their words and what they write on social media so the families dont see
it and lose their jobs.
The second component is moral and ethical behavior; meaning that we educators have
primary moral obligation and they are support, care for, and benefit the child. The three moral
competence are personal values and morality, code of ethics, and professional responsibilities.
The first of moral and ethical behavior is personal values and morality; how a person who has
value use it to their life and how it guides them to their behavior and future and showing their
side of their life like their cultural, community, and their beliefs. Morality is refers to beliefs
about right and wrong that helps guide an individuals behavior. What people regard to right,
wrong, good, bad and their behavior about their obligation.
The second moral and ethical behavior is code of ethics; meaning that we educators have
guideline that we need to follow in order to have trust in families and help prioritizing the
demands of each group. The guideline helps us to keep ourselves professional on behaving,
ethical decision making, raise awareness of ethical issues, and many more. The best known for
code of ethical is NAEYC. The last moral and ethical behavior is professional responsibilities;
professional should not cause any harm to the child, being familiar with, and basing practice on,
the knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Meaning working with
children, report suspected child abuse, respecting families, and many more.

The last component is behaving ethically; how we educators interact with children and
families every day. Educators who are committed are trustworthy, respectful of children and
families, fair in all of their dealings, and aware of the impact of their behavior on others. The
three ways of behaving ethically is fairness, and aware of the impact of behavior. The first one is
awareness of the impact of behavior; is reflecting on the potential impact of ones behavior on
others helps educators to do what is right. Meaning that we educators have to think what words
we are going to use and who we are doing it for. We also have to consider how our words will
make the child feel and who will benefit from their actions.
The last one is fairness; meaning that while educators have power they need to also use it
for fairness. The educators need to show children equality and not allow their personal feelings
to influence programs decisions and to not also favorite a child every day and to let them do what
they like and not letting the other children do it. Showing fairness can be seen in punishment to
children who are not behaving and letting the children use the same toys or activities.
I would connect this to my life every day with families, work, familys friends and many
others. The reason why I would use this to connect to my life for when I am babysitting for
family and I use the fairness to show that I care for the children, have a good relationship and
communication with the children and also a good relationship and communication with the
families to keep my trust with them, my honesty, my responsibilities and many others to help the
children and family make their life easier rather than hard for all of them.
I would reflect this in my life by having more communication with different families and
a better relationship and communication with other children and families. I agree on the fairness
and punishment not being seen by the educators and being shown to the other children because
letting one child get punish for one thing and the other child is doing the same thing but is not

getting punish showing that child that got punish is not getting the equality that you are showing
to the child that did not get punish can involve in that child feelings get hurt and thinking that
you dont care for them. I just feel that is wrong and that educators should pay more attention to
those things so that the children dont ever feel like that they are not wanted or cared for.
