II. LEARNINGS AND INSIGHTS

The month of October is the start of schedule of second dose of Dengue vaccination in
Elementary schools. On the other hand, increase in number of cases of Dengue Fever in Mariveles were
unexpectedly encountered. Some parents were questioning the vaccine despite the number of cases
student who received the first dose but was infected with the virus. While other parents who refused on
the first dose surprisingly had second thought and gave their consent for the vaccination, as well as parent
of students in other grades were asking if their child could get the shot, fearing the high incidence of the
Dengue cases. Thorough explanation of the program and the vaccine per se were given to the parents.
Participation of School principal, teachers, school nurses, parents and the students, and with the support
from the MHO Mariveles, BHWs, Barangay Officers contributed with success of the program.

III. ISSUES AND CONCERNS/PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED

I noticed poor environmental sanitation in the barangay. Polluted areas are the primary
cause of growing cases of Dengue infection. Despite the information dissemination given by the
health teams, some people are not willing to cooperate and are lazy.
IV. RECOMMENDATION
I suggest to have a strategic planning in encouraging the people and strict implementation
of cleaning program led by the barangay officials.
