Erection of Structural and Miscellaneous Steel

Scope
This Specification defines the requirements for the receipt, handling, erection,
assembly, and field inspection of structural and miscellaneous steel. Offshore structures
and pre-engineered metal buildings are excluded from this specification.
The Process Industry Practices PIP STS05130 Erection of Structural and
Miscellaneous Steel Specifications in its entirety except as modified by this Standard
shall constitute the basis of this Standard.

Conflicts and Deviations


A.

Any conflicts between this Specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs) or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Consulting Services Department.

B.

Direct all requests to deviate from this Specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

References
The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and
repair of equipment and facilities covered by this Specification shall comply with the
latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.

Modifications to Process Industry Practice STS05130


The following paragraph numbers refer to PIP Standard STS05130 dated February,
2002, which is part of this specification. The text in each paragraph is an addition,
exception, modification, or deletion to STS05130 as noted. Paragraph numbers not
appearing in STS05130 are new paragraphs to be inserted in numerical order.

(Deletion) Delete in its entirety.

(Deletion) Delete in its entirety.

(Deletion) Delete in its entirety.

4.3.1.1

(Addition) Add the following at the end of the paragraph "and the Saudi
Aramco Construction Safety Manual".

(Modification) Delete the reference to PIP STS05120 and replace it


with 12-SAMSS-007.

6.4.2

(Modification) Revise the paragraph to read as follows Grouting of base


plates shall be in accordance with SAES-Q-010 or SAES-Q-011 and other
Contract Documents if this work is included in Erector's contract.

6.5.8

(Addition) When assembled, all joint surfaces, including those adjacent to


the bolt heads, nuts or washers, shall be free of burrs, dirt and other foreign
materials that would prevent solid seating of parts.

6.5.9

(Addition) When impact wrenches are used, wrenches of adequate capacity


with sufficient air supply shall be provided by the Erector to perform the
required tightening of each bolt.

6.12.1

(Modification) Delete the reference to PIP STS05120 and replace it with


12-SAMSS-007.
