MASTER THESIS TEMPLATE

SYSTEMIC-FUNCTIONAL GRAMMAR, V.Stojii


The body text should include:
1. Introduction to a) the general postulates of SFG, b) the specific topic, c) linguistic literature on the
topic;
2. Introduction to your research scope, method, corpora and structure of the paper;
3. The research; and
4. Conclusion/results/applications/discussion.
The topic can be researched in the following manner:
A. By analysing a corpus of contemporary written and spoken English;
B. By contrasting corpora of contemporary written and spoken English and Serbian;
C. By examining the EFL teaching methodology; and
D. By analysing a Serbian-English or English-Serbian translation corpus.

The recommended order of required and optional sections is the following:


Title Page (required)
Abstract (required; in Serbian and English)
Table of Contents (required)
List of Figures or List of Illustrations (optional)
List of Tables (optional)
Body of Dissertation:
a. Text (required)
b. Appendix/Appendices (optional)
c. References / Works Cited (required)
LANGUAGE
The thesis can be written in English or Serbian.
FONT
A single font must be used throughout the thesis. Headings are bold/not caps and not larger than the rest of
the text. Italics are used for examples. Small caps are used for definitions of meaning. Double quotation
marks are used for quotations. Footnotes are font 10.
PAGE SIZE AND SPECIFICATIONS
The thesis must have consistent margins of 1.25 inches at the left and right edges of the page. Page numbers
must be placed at least one inch from the bottom of the page. All pages except the title and abstract pages
must contain an Arabic page number, bottom-centered. The first page of every major section must begin on
a new page. Page size A4.
SPACING
The text is double-spaced with the exception of quotations, paragraphs, footnotes, bibliographic entries and
lists in appendices.
TABLES AND FIGURES
Tables and figures should be consecutively numbered.

TITLE PAGE
The following format for the title page is suggested:
The title should be written using all capital letters, centered and spaced about 1.5 inches from the top of the
page.
Carefully select words for the title to represent the subject accurately.
Top Line 1: The University of Nis
Top Line 2: Faculty of Philosophy
Top Line 3: Master Thesis
Centered Line 4: Title
Line 5 alignment right: Name
ABSTRACT
The abstract should state the problem, describe the methods and procedures used, and the main results.
It does not exceed one page.
WORKS CITED in the text
Citing sources in the text include reference to the source by mentioning the author's last name and the page
number Halliday (1985: 101).
REFERENCES
The list of References should contain the titles of books and articles mentioned in the thesis. It should begin
on a new page. The list may be single-spaced within each entry but should include 12 points of space
between entries (paragraph-spacing-after-12pts).
The following style guide should be observed:
Arrange entries in alphabetical order by authors' last names.
Capitalize the first word and all other principal words of the titles of cited works listed. (Do not
capitalize articles, prepositions, coordinating conjunctions, or the "to" in infinitives.)
When multiple publishers are listed, include all of them, placing a semicolon between each.
When more than one city is listed for the same publisher, use only the first city.
Use the conjunction "and," not an ampersand [&], when listing multiple authors of a single work.
