1st Year Goals - St. Marys Catholic High School
As a first year foreign language teacher, I am truly excited and eager to begin my teaching career
at St. Marys Catholic High School. In my first year of teaching Spanish, I want to be able to
incorporate all that I have learned about my content area and teaching skills in my classroom, but
also be able to grow in all of the different unique areas of teaching. I will be able to do this and
receive quality formation by collaborating with the other teachers in the foreign language
department and by building good relationships with each of them. In addition, I understand that
each school and department has their own teaching curriculum. I will be able to learn more
about the course curriculum by speaking to the other teachers in my department, sharing ideas
and by listening to their feedback. In my classroom, my lessons and units will align with the 5
Cs standards which include Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and
Communities, this way my students will be able to learn more than a language. I will also
provide my students with any accommodations that they may need and increase student
engagement by using different learning styles for auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners.
Furthermore, I aspire to help lead a Spanish Club on campus and join the football teams
coaching staff. I strongly believe that sports and other extracurricular activities allow students to
be more engaged and have a greater part in the St. Marys family.
Long Term Goals 5 Year Plan
Through the course of the next 5 years, I plan to know my students well, be involved on campus,
and grow as a professional and educator. After the first two weeks of each semester, I will learn
and know all of my students names and through the course of the semester, make an effort to
build quality relationships with each of them. I will make my classroom a safe environment
where all students will be able to feel at home, respected, and motivated. By having an affirming
attitude each and every day, I will be able to show my students that I whole heartedly care about
their education, human development, and success, inside and outside of the classroom. In
addition, I will collaborate and work with the other Spanish and other foreign language teachers,
developing a Community Heritage Week for our students. This project will allow students to
discuss their gained knowledge and understanding of Hispanic culture, while also growing in
their understanding of other cultures. I plan to make this an annual project that will be held each
fall semester. In these five years, I also plan on growing as a Spanish teacher by attending
conferences and other workshops offered by the Arizona Chapter of the American Association of
Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) and the Arizona Language Association (AZLA).
The last part would be that I will be the Freshman or JV head football coach. These different
roles will help me strive to be a quality role model for all of my students, both as a teacher and
coach.
I will be on the Freshman or JV head football coach. After gaining some experience, I
aspire to be on the Varsity coaching staff.
