I.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Early sociologists defined community as a group of people living and

interacting within specific geographical boundaries. People regularly gather
together to accomplish a goal, relax, recreate, or enjoy a physical space. It
is through these different interactions that community is formed. Social
capital is loosely defined as the glue that holds a community together.

Walkable communities are more livable built environments and lead to
whole, happy, healthy lives for the people. (http://www.walkable.org/)
According to healthy spaces and places 2009 that a reasonable walking
distance is likely to be affected by location.
The converging zone/ social capital of barangay Bugayong, Binalonan is
the courtacia (basketball court + acacia), it is located between the zone 3
and zone 4. Walkability is highly needed due to the reason that the people
in the other zones are experiencing difficulties to reach the social capital or
the converging zone in terms of distance. The strategy is to create network
paths using spatial connection.

II.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Ideal
Good connectivity provides easy access to key destinations for
pedestrians.

Reality
The barangay Bugayong, Binalonan is located along the major road. The
people are experiencing difficulties in reaching the converging zone due to
lack of network paths.

Consequence
The desire of the people to go to converging zone is hindered due to lack of
connectivity of paths. The people in the other zones could not interact to
the converging zone.
What are the significant zones that needs to be connected to the
converging zone?
What will be the operation to attain walkable routes to converging
zone through spatial connection in order to make it livable?

III.

OBJECTIVES

To identify the zones that needs to be connected towards the converging

zone in order it to be walkable.
To determine the livability of barangay Bugayong through spatial
connection towards converging zone.

IV.

HYPOTHESIS

The connectivity of community have a significant impact on the livability of

converging zone.
