Unit description and learning outcomes

In this unit students will have the opportunity to develop their ability to think of a research
topic as well as write a research proposal. In workshops, students will be able to analyze the
presented example of a research reports, learn how to write clear and concise background,
learn how to explain the process of doing the research as well as how to analyze it, learn how
to present the proposal. The focus will be on the macroskills (speaking, listening, reading and
writing) and the sub skills (functions, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation).
On completion of the unit, students will
1. have developed worldwide understanding on the issues of ELT;
2. have developed critical analysis on the presented example of a research report
(articles, journals, etc.);
3. have developed their ability to think of a research topic as well as write a research
proposal;
4. have learned how to explain the process of doing the research as well as how to
analyze the data;
5. have developed their presentation skills (e.g.: creating slides, natural verbal and non
verbal language)

Delivery mode
On campus, following the standard semester, with weekly 1.30 to 2-hour teaching.
There will also be time for independent study.

Create a-ten minute-speech video on your selected research example. The speech should be
supported by appropriate slides.

Assignment for Final test
Revise your research proposal based on the learned unit and prepare the slides for your
presentation. This assignment will be marked according to your ability in presenting the
proposal and responding questions throughout presentation. Therefore, you are also
required to present your proposal clearly and concisely and create academic and
readable slides.
