1.0

GENERAL
Reference is made to the Codes of Practice and to the British Standards issued by
the British Standards Institution and Conformity to COP or standards shall mean
conformity to the latest edition published. In this connection following abbreviations
are used.
BSCP-

British Standard Specifications.

British Standard Code of Practice.

Wherever the Ethiopian Standards on a particular subject are available, they will
govern in place of the concerned British Standards.
Bidders are advised to purchase such Ethiopian Standards/codes through the
Employer.
2.0

SITE INFORMATION
Tendaho Sugar Project (TSP), Ethiopia, on behalf of the Government of Federal
Democratic Republic of Ethiopia intends to install one new sugar factory with
designed cane crushing capacity of 26000 tons per day (TCD) at Tendaho, located in
the Lower Awash valley of the Afar Administrative region of Ethiopia. The project site
is adjacent to the Addis-Djibouti tarmac highway with a convenient distance to the
port of Djibouti and about 600 km from Addis Ababa in Northeast direction.

3.0

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE

The project for 26000 TCD sugar mill shall be implemented in two phases. The civil
work for Phase 1 for 13000 TCD capacity shall be completed in Eighteen months
from the date of commencement. The civil work for phase 2 for further capacity
addition of 13000 TCD shall start 12 months from the commencement date of phase
1 and shall be completed in 12 months thereafter.

4.0

DRAWINGS AND DESIGNS

The Employer is responsible for designing and preparation of detailed working
drawings for the whole of civil works and the bidder is not expected to carry out any
design work. Plans and Drawing forming part of the Bid Documents shall constitute
only general guidance to enable the bidder to visualize the work contemplated under
the contract. Detailed working plans and drawings required to be furnished by the
Employer for the actual execution of work shall be furnished from time to time, during
the progress of work.

5.0

TOLERANCES
The permissible tolerances shall be as per the provisions contained in BS 6954
(Tolerances for Buildings).

METHODS OF MEASUREMENTS
The method of measurements shall be as per the publication Standard Methods of
Measurement of UK Institution of Civil Engineers.( Refer their website www.ice.uk)

GENERAL TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

General technical specification of civil works to be carried out is given in Section-IX,
Sub-section-IX.2. The Bidder shall refer the Section-IX, Sub SectionIX.2 according to
the scope of work specified in the bid document for Foundations of equipments and
Plant Buildings.
