Run the following steps from each RSM client (end user) machine that will be
submitting RSM jobs to the Microsoft HPC cluster. The last step is a test to verify
that communication between the head node and the client machine is working
correctly. If the test fails, you must resolve any errors before continuing with this
tutorial.
1.
Install ANSYS, Inc. products on each client machine that will be submitting RSM
jobs to the Microsoft HPC cluster. When installing, be sure to choose a product
that includes ANSYS Workbench. Please see the tutorials on the Downloads page

Instructions
1.
Install the Microsoft HPC 2008 Server Client Utilities on the client machines from
the head node network share called \\HEADNODE\REMINST or from the CD.
On the Client computer, select Start > Run and type \\HEADNODE\REMINST
(where HEADNODE is the actually name of the head node on the cluster)
2.
Double-click on the setup.exe file. The installer will prompt you to install required programs.
3.
Create a working directory (the directory where your model files reside, for example, .def). The working directory where your models are stored can be a
local drive, a drive on the HEADNODE or network storage drive. CFX solving
does NOT do a great deal of DISK I/O so a fast SATA drive is sufficient for file
access.
4.
Share the working directory and give Full Control Access to the USER.
5.
Create a cfxccs_options.txt file in the \%USERPROFILE%\.cfx\ directory. You can open up Windows Explorer and in the Address Bar type: %USERPROFILE% to locate the .cfx directory.
Note
The keywords in this file are case sensitive. For example, you cannot use lowercase pathmap; it has to be uppercase PATHMAP.
Additionally, you cannot have a blank carriage return after the last
entry.

Note
There are other available options you can add to the cfxccs_options.txt file. Please see ANSYS Help for more information.
2. Verify that the cfxccs_options.txt file that you created does not have a
hidden file extension, for example, cfxccs_options.txt.txt You can verify
this by going to Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options. Uncheck Hide
File Extensions for Known File Types. You will then be able to verify if there is
an additional extension. If it does have a hidden extension, you must remove the
additional .txt extension.

Using the Remote Solve Manager Setup Wizard to Configure ANSYS CFX and Workbench to Submit Solve Jobs to HPC Cluster
Troubleshooting
Exception from TaskHost: A required privilege is not held by
the client
Problem:
Compute Server running as: DOMAIN\username
Logged on user DOMAIN\username
Exception from TaskHost: A required privilege is not held by the client
"C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v145\RSM\bin\Ans.Rsm.TaskHost.exe"]
Caught exception from script: [0x80004005] A required privilege is not
held by the client ["C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v145\RSM\bin\Ans.Rsm.TaskHost.exe"].
Explanation: You have multiple users trying to use RSM, and it has not been
configured to do this. On Windows, you can see this by (on the machine where
RSM is running) by looking at Task Manager > Processes. RSM has been setup
as the user and not SYSTEM. This is incorrect. For a multi-user environment, they
should be running as SYSTEM.
Resolution: Install RSM as a Service (Windows) or as a Daemon (Linux).
Resolution: If you see this (on your machine in the example above, but could
be any RSM Manager) you need to right-click on it and select Set Password as
your password is not set.
For a password dialogue (below), if your domain and name match the one
showing, press Enter. If not, an alternate will be created and given the name
you provide at this point. Put in your password (in most cases your domain
password) when prompted.
To do this with a remote RSM Solve Manager you must add it to your local RSM
Solve Manager to be able to view it:
1. Click on the Tools menu in the local RSM Solve Manager.
128
Release 14.5 - SAS IP, Inc. All rights reserved. - Contains proprietary and confidential information of ANSYS,
Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
2. Then click on Options. You should then see the below screen:
3. To add another RSM Manager:
Click on the Name bar and enter the name of the remote machine.
Click the Add button.
You should now see its name under Solve Managers.
Going back to the main window, you should see it under the tree view.
You can now right-click on the remote computer name and use Set Password to set the password.
If you are still getting this error after you have set the password, rightclick on the RSM Solve Manager machine name and select Accounts. If
you right-click on the account name, delete the account, and then close
the dialogue, you will then need to set your password again. This should
rectify the problem.
Explanation: RSM is written using .NET, and .NET cannot be run from a network
share without first allowing permissions through Caspol. See the section above,
Run CasPol on the Head Node.

Troubleshooting
Exception from TaskHost: A required privilege is not held by the client
Problem:
Compute Server running as: DOMAIN\username
Logged on user DOMAIN\username
Exception from TaskHost: A required privilege is not held by the client
["C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v145\RSM\bin\Ans.Rsm.TaskHost.exe"]
Caught exception from script:
[0x80004005] A required privilege is not held by the client
["C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v145\RSM\bin\Ans.Rsm.TaskHost.exe"].
Explanation
You have multiple users trying to use RSM and it has not been configured to do
this.
On Windows, you can see this on the machine where RSM is running by looking
at Task Manager > Processes. RSM has been set up as the user instead of SYSTEM. This is incorrect. For a multi-user environment the user should be running
as SYSTEM.
Resolution
To fix this you need to install RSM as a Service (Windows) or as a Daemon (Linux).
Caught exception at user logon; logon failure: unknown user name or bad
password

Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
Resolution
If you see this (on your machine in the example above, but it could be any RSM
Manager), you need to right click on it and press set password, as your password
is not set.
For the password dialog, if your domain and name match the one shown, press
Enter. If not, an alternate will be created given the name you provide at this
point. Then put in your password (in most cases your domain password) when
prompted.
To do this with a remote RSM Manager you must add it to your local RSM Manager to be able to view it:
1.
2.
Click on Options.
3.
Click on the Name bar and enter the name of the remote machine.
b.
c.
Go back to the Main Window. The remote machine name should be visible
under the tree view.
d.
Right-click on the remote computer name and use Set Password to set the
password.
If you still get this error after setting the password, right-click on the RSM
Manager Machine and select Accounts.
Right click on the account name and delete it. Then close the dialog and
set your password again. This should correct the problem.
