Andromeda in Greek
mythology was the daughter
of king Cepheus and queen
Cassiopeia. Thanks to
Cassiopeias bragging about
Andromedas beauty,
Poseidon sent Cetus the sea
monster to ravage her
[Andromeda] as punishment.
Andromeda was rescued from
her position, where she was
naked and chained to a rock
by Perseus

Myth

The midsection of what is


now known as Andromeda
was recorded in Babylonian
astronomy as Anunitum
Also associated with
Mesopotamian story of
Tiamat, the goddess of
Chaos and the story of
creation
Was one of the original 48
constellations designed by
Ptolemy in the 2nd century
The official boundaries
were defined by Eugene
Delporte in 1930
