Whenever the students are watching the School House Rock Video they can
write down any important information or facts that they hear.
Review the information and material through Boston Tea Party PowerPoint.
Explain to the students when and where the Boston Tea Party took place.
It took place on December 16, 1773. On a winter night.
It lasted about 3 hours.
Took place in Griffins Wharf in Boston.
Explain to the student the causes of the Boston Tea Party
Taxation without representation
The American colonists believed that Britain was unfairly taxing them to
pay for expenses incurred during the French and Indian War.
Colonists believed that Parliament did not have the right to tax them
because the American colonies were not represented in Parliament.
Townshend Revenue Act- Tea Tax
King George III- implemented a tax to help raise money to pay off the
massive debts incurred.
Provide the students with images from the Boston Tea Party so they can
visualize what it would have been like (laminated on the white board).
The students will create their own tea cup and tea packet. On the tea cup the
students will label it causes and write down the causes of the Boston Tea Party.
On the tea packet, the students will label it effects and then write down the
effects of the Boston Tea Party.
Discuss important facts about the Boston Tea Party:
342 chests of tea dumped into the water.
Worth $1.7 million
3 ships loaded the tea: Dartmouth, the Eleanor, and the Beaver
Hundreds of people participated in the dumping of tea.
The students will compare their notes from the video to what they have learned
in class according to their activity.
The students will share their cause and effect tea cup that they made with their
shoulder partner at their table.
The students will be assessed by taking an online quiz about the Boston Tea
Party.

ESOL & ESE Students: I will make sure to speak clearly whenever discussing and
teaching the students about the Boston Tea Party. I will provide the students with pictures
that will be beneficial to the students so they have a better understanding of what they are
learning. For example, whenever I am discussing the three ships that brought the tea I will
show the students pictures of the ships. I will also model for the students how to create their
own tea cup and tea bag activity.
Gifted Students: The gifted students can assist students who may have trouble
understanding a particular topic. They could also research some more facts about the Boston
Tea Party that can be shared with the class.
