Select Methods, Media, , and Materials

1. methods:Lecture format and hands on experiences. Both methods can be used for
students to be able to recognize their different things we are learning. There has to be a
direct lesson and lecture so I can show what things look like in real time.
2. media: I will use youtube and google images. Google images will show that the rocks and
soil look like in real time, so will youtube. There are videos that I will show to students that
they can write notes on.
3. materials: rocks, soil, pencil, paper, colored pencils, gloves, soap and water
Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods
1. Preview the materials: I will need to make sure that there are a variety of rocks and
soil/clay for students to be able to have a holisitic view to what is out in the real world. I
will have to have appropriate pictures of the items that are not possible to have in the
classroom. I will make sure students have a writing utensil and paper, and provide extras
for those that do not bring it.
2. Prepare the materials: I need to get all of the materials together in different containers
with the same things for each student to be able to have the same experiences. And
make sure there is paper, pencils, and colored pencils for the students.
3. Prepare the environment: The learning will take place in the classroom. I will separate
the classroom into different stations so that there is not too much movement around the
classroom while learning about these different things.
4. Prepare the learners: I ask the students what they already know and see if they can
identify rocks and soil before we talk about them and see them.
5. Provide the learning experiences: See outline.
Require Learner Participation
This lesson will take multiple sessions (up to 5) due to practicing, but project will take even
longer/more classes.
DAY 1:
Introduce:
Introduce the rocks and different soil- what they know, what they want to know
Give examples of different types that we may see everyday.
Warm-up exercise:
The students will write down where they see different rocks and soils and the enviroments
to travel to be more aware.
DAY 2:
Lecture:
We will watch youtube videos on the different rocks and soils.
Re-try exercise:
Now that students have seen these items, we will split up into stations and identify these
items by using touch. We will write notes about how these things look and what they are.
