Design-build

Despite the complexity of the

131,000-square-foot Building 2791
renovation, which involved hazardous
materials abatement and numerous
regulatory code requirements, Atkins
helped to achieve a move-in date
one month ahead of schedule for this
project at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Atkins completed all design documents for the award-winning renovation of Building 2791 at Fort Sam Houston in just six weeks.

Streamlining the design

and construction process
Atkins has developed a robust capability to support the federal
governments design-build program. We are a sought-out service
provider because of our understanding of the federal requirements
in project delivery, our capability to meet the LEED requirements
for federal projects, and our ability to provide cost-effective design
solutions. The design-build process demands a flexible, creative,
and responsive team of resources. Atkins has the right experience,
processes, and procedures to provide low-risk solutions to our
construction clients, while serving the needs of our federal clients.

Building information modeling

Company Operations Facility, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico

Providing in-depth design options

in a digital environment
Endorsed by the National Institute of Building Sciences, the American
Institute of Architects, and the National CAD Standard, BIM embodies
the future of design. This dynamic modeling technology is the result of
owner demand for better and more cost-effective buildings.
Atkins understands BIM, and we are incorporating its processes
into our designs. Results have been extraordinary, with enhanced
coordination, improved cost and quality control, and streamlined
communications. Teams located in different offices can collaborate on
the same set of 3-D drawings, which promotes information reuse and
exchange in a real-time environment. This repository is then passed
on to the client to maintain and use throughout the full life cycle of
the facility.

Washington Headquarter Services at Mark Center, Alexandria, Virginia

Another benefit of this technological advance is that clients can explore

in-depth design options in a digital environment, thus conserving both
time and materials. As a result, facilities more closely fit client needs
and provide enhanced performance for the full life cycle.

Extensive experience preparing full design

packages and assembling RFPs
Atkins planning and design experience, coupled with our ability to
provide quality scoping documents to design-build teams, is highly
advantageous for our federal clients. Our solicitation packages define
the scope in sufficient detail to ensure our clients projects meet DD
Form 1391 requirements, while capturing the critical components
defined by the project stakeholders.
We not only provide appropriate requirements packages, we have
also assisted our federal clients with evaluation of offerors proposals,
estimates for the cost of design and construction, and full site
representation during the construction process. Once again, our ability
to provide one-stop, full-service design provides low-risk options for our
federal clients.
