Final Journal Reflection
Writing may seem like a basic skill used to take notes, write a letter or even just signing
one's name at the bottom of a card. But writing can become something so much deeper through
critical thinking, heightened awareness, and other means of analyzing what someone has written.
For as long as I can remember, I knew how to write.
My thoughts and ideas about writing have evolved over the course of this semester.
During the reading section of framing, I learned a lot about the process of writing and being able
to break down another individuals paper. I believe that there is a process of writing but that it
varies from person to person. For myself, my initial step in the writing process is creating a
detailed outline that pours out all of my ideas for the subject matter. Next, I start to type on a
document file, this document usually has no organization but it helps me to get a start on the
final paper. This writing process works for me because it initiates a thought process about the
particular piece of writing that I will be working on.
After taking UWRT 1101, I feel as if my process of writing has drastically changed. I
now think deeper and try to analyze what I am going to write about. Instead of just creating an
outline, I form paragraphs and try to organize them accordingly. UWRT 1101 has helped to form
and evolve my writing as well as my writing process.

In the future, when confronted with a writing assignment, I plan on starting the writing
process as soon as I have been given the assignment. I believe that this will help me to think
more in depth about a paper because I will have allowed myself more time on the writing
assignment. I also would like to improve on my determination. I believe that if I can have
passion and eagerness to write, the paper will then turn out better and more informed.
Determination is also an important characteristic in writing because of success as a writer. If
adequate practice and focus is put into a piece of writing, the end result will be well improved.
Writing, for me, has turned into an act of discovery. I enjoy using my imagination,
creativity, and thoughts to then be put down on paper. Writing is also an experiment in the sense
that it is a sequence of trial and error. The first draft of the paper is never perfect and has to
redone multiple times in order to get a finalized product. This concept can also be used in the
sense of organization of the paper. Paragraphs may be moved around and sentences may be
changed in order to make sure that the essay flows. Writing can be a creative and imaginative
process as well as also being described as an experimental procedure.
My thoughts and ideas regarding writing have changed over the course of this semester. I
hope that through practice and learning, my writing process and determination towards writing
will continue to evolve.
