The 78th Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) National Convention will be
hosted by the Cagayan de Oro chapter. The event will be on February 22-25, 2017 at
Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Limketkai Drive, Cagayan de Oro City. In behalf of the organizing
team, I am cordially inviting you and your students to participate in the PIChE National
Student Congress. The following activities will be on February 22, 2017, 9:00am to 3:00pm:

These activities will be great opportunities to further develop the chemical engineering
program and recognize the outstanding chemical engineering students, faculty and
institutions from all over the Philippines.
Attached herein are the guidelines of the said event. We are looking forward for your
active participation.

Team Composition:
1. Each participating team shall be composed of a maximum of four members and one faculty coach.
The Dean or Ch.E. Department Chair of the school must endorse the
names of the team members and the faculty coach through a registration form to be submitted
to
the
Contest
Secretariat
prior
to
the
contest
proper.
2. Only currently enrolled undergraduate Chemical Engineering students are allowed to join as team
members. They must present their validated student ID cards and/or registration forms upon registration.
3. Each team must assign a Team Captain. Only the Team Captain or the faculty coach may act
spokesperson
for
the
team
during
the
contest
proper.

4. Only THREE members at a time shall occupy their teams table during the contest proper.
Substitutions shall be allowed only between rounds.
Registration Fee:
PhP 700.00 per team and PhP 350.00 per student member (for food)
Quiz Topics and Question Types:
1. The following topics shall be the scope of the Quiz Bowl:
a) Core ChE Courses: ChE Calculations, Transport Phenomena (Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer
and Fluid Flow), Separation Processes, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Chemical
Reaction Engineering, Plant and Equipment Design, Instrumentation and Process Control,
Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Process Industries and Chemical Engineering Laws,
Contracts and Ethics
b) Allied ChE Courses: Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry,
Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology, and Materials Science and Engineering
with wrong
b) Problem Type. The team must write down the numerical answer to the question accurate up
to two decimal places together with the appropriate unit, unless otherwise stated. The point-credit
for each question will be 10, 15 or 20, depending on the level of difficulty of the question/problem.

c) In addition, each question shall be given a time limit for the teams to submit their answers.
3. A total of 30 questions shall be given, divided into three rounds of 10 questions each.
9. The teams getting the three highest points after the 30th question shall be declared the official
winners of the PICHE Quiz Bowl National Finals.
10. The top three teams shall also receive trophies, medals and cash prizes.
