Unit Summary

The students will learn about the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expedition. The
students will learn about hurricanes and weather relative to Louisiana in science. In math, the
students will learn to create bar graphs based on data given. Louisianas major geographic
features will be covered in social studies.

Social Studies- 3.3.4 Locate and label major geographic features of Louisiana on a map.
3.4.1 Compare and contrast the physical features of various regions of Louisiana.
Math- 3.MD.B.3 Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set

with several categories. Solve one- and two-step how many more and how many less
problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs.
ELA- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.7 Conduct short research projects that build knowledge

about a topic.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and

Prerequisite Skills

The students need to know the basic facts about working a computer. The teacher will assist

know where Louisiana is located.
