Experience and Skill Requirements

Individuals applying for the Installer 2, Optical Fiber exam must possess at least two
years of current and veriable information and communications technology (ICT)
industry installation experience. Those applying for the Installer 2, Optical Fiber exam
must be able to distinguish between dierent colors and possess manual dexterity to
complete ne motor tasks. Topics taught in this class build upon what is taught in the
IN101 and IN225 courses.
Course Materials
Students must bring aprint versionof theInformation Technology Systems Installation
Methods Manual(ITSIMM) to class, along with any errata sheets. Please reference the
course conrmation letter as to which edition is appropriate. The manual is not
included in the course fee. Personal or prescription safety glasses are also
recommended.

Examination Information
Exam Process
A completed exam application, including the experience check list and a nonrefundable
application fee of $255 must be received by BICSI for processing at 10 business days
prior to the exam date. If BICSI receives the exam application less than 10 business
days prior to the exam, an additional $50 expediting fee will apply. BICSI will not accept
exam applications received less than ve business days prior to the exam date. The
completed exam application and application fee can be faxed, emailed or mailed to

approved, it is valid for one year.

Exam
The Installer 2, Optical Fiber exam is delivered in two parts. The rst part is hands-on
and includes a number of manual tasks that must be properly completed, as well as
written scenarios that will test the examinee's knowledge of codes and standards. The
second part is written and is based on the content of BICSI's ITSIMM. To become a
BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber, you must successfully pass both parts. You can take the
hands-on and written exams an unlimited amount of times in a one-year period. Exam
retake fee is $105 for each part. You must wait 30 days from the date of your last
attempt to resit for the exam.
Hands-On Exam
The hands-on performance exam consists of completing six assigned tasks to industry
standards, within a 20-minute-per-task time limit.
Proctors will give pass/fail results on site. If the applicant fails to successfully complete
one of the hands-on exam tasks, same day retakes on the failed task will be given at no
additional cost, time permitting. If the applicant fails the same task twice or fails two
hands-on tasks, the hands-on exam will be rescheduled.
If the applicant fails the hands-on exam, the applicant must wait 30 days from the last
attempt before reapplying. A $105 retake fee will apply.
Written Exam
The written exam is closed-book and contains 100 questions in multiple choice.
Questions are taken from the BICSI ITSIMM, and are both knowledge- and applicationbased. Installer 2, Optical Fiber applicants will be tested on chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and
11. Two hours are allowed to complete the written exam.
If the applicant fails the written exam, the applicant must wait 30 days from the last
attempt before reapplying. The applicantwill need to reschedule the written portion of
the exam by completing a retake form and submitting it to BICSI, along with the $105
exam retake fee.
After Passing the Installer 2, Optical Fiber Exam
Once you successfully pass both the hands-on and written exam, your credential will be
valid for three full years from the date that you passed the last portion of the exam.
Within 30-45 business days of passing the exam, you will be mailed a congratulations
letter, a registration card for you to carry in your wallet and a certicate suitable for
framing.
Renewal Information
In order to maintain your credential, there are required benchmarks to accomplish
during each three-year registration period. You must show proof of completion of a
minimum of 15 BICSI continuing education credit (CEC) hours. When you complete and
submit your renewal form and fee to BICSI, on or before your credential expiration
date, you must also include the above benchmarks.
It is recommended that you further your career by advancing to the Installer 2, Copper
and/or Technician (dependent upon experience) credential(s) during the time you are a
BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber.
Examination Retake Policy

For an examinee that needs to retake the exam, a 30-day waiting period applies after
each unsuccessful attempt. Each retake attempt requires the appropriate retake fee. If
an examinee does not successfully pass before the end of their one-year eligibility
period, they may reapply by submitting a new application. At that time, they will be
required to test on both the hands-on and written exams, at a BICSI scheduled event.

business day prior to your appointment may result in forfeiting your exam fees.
Paper/pencil Testing
If you wish to reschedule your exam, you must contact BICSI at least six business days
prior to the exam date. Rescheduling less than six business days prior to your
appointment may result in forfeiting your exam fees. Rescheduling requests must be
