Presentation in NS4000 ECDIS

Ice-charts are displayed on ECDIS in conformity with

Russian and International display regulations

Ice-charts in NS4000 ECDIS

Transas ECDIS allows simultaneous

display of up to 6 different semitransparent layers with individual
transparency setting for each layer

Provides the navigator with a

combined navigational and
meteorological information picture

Support of national and international
(ice eggs) symbols

Tasks to complete
Overall route planning for navigation in ice
covered waterways
Defining the ice edge
edge, ice fields
Simplifying ice situation assessment for an
operator
On request, AARI/MOs can provide the
information on recommended routes in icecovered waterways,
y , based on basic route
information from a ship

ICE-charts Order and Delivery

Orders and delivery of ICE-charts are managed by customers

The constant need of access

to Information and Data

Continues supply of data to vessels for navigation and

planning
Charts, Chart corrections,
ICE-charts, Weather,
Nav-warnings in real-time
from supplier

The problem

LED-time for supply of Charts and

data to vessel on fixed media to long
E-mail supply of data un-practical and
transfer of data by USB-stick - un-safe
Service and support needs on ECDIS
and Radar are 70-80% SW related
Access to service engineer distant,
limited and potentially expensive

13/04/2011

The solution
On-line SATCOM connection;
Network connection between ECDIS/Radar
and ships network and communication
system
Solution for protection of core NAV-system
with HW protection unit
System for remote online service and
support.
Solution must have Type approval

Connection

13/04/2011

On-line SAT connection

additional benefits
Remote service and support for NAV-system and
software
Remote installation and service of
Navigation and Radar systems
Monitoring system
performance on-line
Proactive service by collecting
diagnostics information
Remote maintenance

Sailing in ice conditions

The Ice Navigation module developed jointly with the Arctic

and Antarctic Research Institute allows training of the crew
procedures used when:
Sailing in broken ice;
Sailing along the solid ice edge,
bumping against the edge;
Sailing in open pack ice, in
ice holes and in patches of ice-free
ice free
water;
Mooring to Single Point Mooring (SPM);

Sailing in ice conditions

Following icebreaker - training in

watch service procedures for
sailing in convoy, maintaining
communication between own
ship, icebreaker and other ships
in convoy
Proceeding along the channel in
a convoy;
Radar information while sailing
in ice conditions;
Using ice chart in ECDIS.
