Professional Growth Plan

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for considering me to be a part of your program! In the following letter I
have included my first year goals as a teacher, my five year goals, and the
organizations I would like to be a part of, as a teacher.
My first year goals include: becoming an essential part of a Professional Learning
Community (plc) at the school, and collaborating with other English content
teachers. I want to create a classroom environment that is: respectful, full of
participation, student led, innovative, and equips students. I will establish credibility
with my first year students, parents, faculty, and staff. I will do this by dressing
professionally, being two weeks ahead on my lesson plans, as well as being selfreflective on my teaching. In addition, I will find a mentor-teacher at the school that
can coach my throughout the year. The purpose of having a mentor teacher is to
have another, more experienced voice be able to see another perspective on my
teaching me, that can speak into my life, and wants me to become a better teacher,
communicator, and benefit to the school community.
My five year goals include: eventually making my way up to the ranks of
department head. I want to take ownership of my classroom while maintaining
strong relationships with other faculty. My ultimate goal with curriculum is to work
with other content areas, to align what our students are learning and make their
learning interdisciplinary. For example, aligning our literature while history is
learning about the civil war and propaganda or starting our Where Im From poems
while science is researching real world problems at home. I always want to be
gaining information about my content area. This includes being a part of the
National Council of Teachers of English Annual Convention. At this conference
teachers get to work and hear from other noted teachers who are redefining
education in America and around the world. Teachers are also given the opportunity
bring their unit plans to a panel of esteemed teachers and receive feedback. I would
go to learn about new technologies and teaching strategies that I could implement
in my classroom.
I am interested in being a part of the following organizations:

Girls soccer
National Honors Society
Event Planning- Student Council

Thank you for taking the time to read my first year, five year, and organization
goals. I never want to stay stagnant in my development as a teacher. Coach-ability
comes naturally, I love learning more about how I can improve in every aspect of

life. I want to be a blessing to this school community as a whole as well as each of

my students individually.
