Abstract

Saiful Bakhri, the title of this research is the Effect of Leadership Style, Work
Environment, Job Characteristics toward Job Satisfaction and the Performance of Local
Government Employees, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. With the advisory commission:
H. Basri Modding as promoter, H. Ahmad Gani and H. Muchtar Lamo as co-promoter.
The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the Effect of Leadership Style,
Work Environment, Job Characteristics toward Job Satisfaction and the Performance of Local
Government Employees, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.
The population of this study was the whole civil servants in the office of Konawe
regency, which the total 1986 people. Because the population was stratified, so the sample was
also stratified according to education level in each department or SKPD. After that, the sampling
was done by using a nomogram Harry King. The sample of this study was 167 respondents. The
analysis model used in this research was descriptive quantitative and structural equation
modeling (SEM) using LISREL 8.8 program.
These results indicated that the leadership style (X1) had significant effect on job
satisfaction (Y1). Work environment (X2) had significant effect on job satisfaction (Y1). Job
characteristics (X3) had no significant effect on job satisfaction (Y1). Job satisfaction (Y1) had
effect on the performance (Y2). Leadership style (X1) did not affect on performance (Y2)
through work satisfaction (Y1). Work environment (X2) had effect on performance (Y2) through
work satisfaction (Y1). Job characteristics (X3) had no effect on performance (Y2) through work
satisfaction (Y1).
