Nats Await Ruling on Proteste

Packers Bow
After Five
Overtimes
SPECTATORS nt the record
smashing basketball game at the
Coliseum on the'holiday, remained
a bit dazed and bewildered today
ns they reviewed plays in the five
overtime periods before the Syracuse Nationals rung up a 125-123
decision over the Anderson Packers,
a decision that still must survive
a protest by the losers.
At least six and possibly more
all-time National Basketball Association records were established in
the zany contest \vhich packed
continuous thrills for the 6,822
partisan fans.
THE 218 POINTS scored is a
new high surpassing the previous
mark by 19. Five overtimes is the
longest loop game played. It took
three hours and 48 minutes to
complete the 73 minutes of actual
competition.
Syracuse's 125 points were the
most ever scored by one team,
and Anderson's 123 total was tops
for a visiting team. Both squads
eclipsed the mark for free throws
completed and free throws attempted, as well as number of
personal fouls committed. The
Nats converted 59 charity tosses
and Anderson 57.

missed free throvvs of the Syracusans.
Anderson lodged ils protest in
the final 28 seconds of regulation
time asserting Syracuse had illegally substituted Leroy Chollet for
George Ratkovicz. At the time
the Packers led 76-74 and Ray
Corley was at the free throw line
awaiting a pair of foul tosses which
he converted after the dispute had
waged for several minutes.
