Reflection Lesson 1 (Numbers after 10), My MST first observation

Wednesday (26th.October.2016)
My first lesson to teach with my MST was about counting from 1 to 30 and it went smoothly as a
great lesson, even my students enjoy it and wanted me to teach them again which encouraged me
to do my best for the next times. The objectives of my lesson were having students be able to
read the numbers from 1 to 30 which was achieved at the beginning of the class as a warm up
and revision of reading numbers. A second objective was to have students count and write the
numbers between 1 to 20 which was represented on the core part of the lesson.

Having the whole students reading the numbers from the schedule of numbers has helped me to
engage with students and it helped them to revise the numbers once the class began. My MST
liked that activity as a warm up and it showed that the whole classroom was engaged. My MST
commented on saying the LO and the rules as strength points as well as using the simple Arabic
language for kids.

The second activity was when I asked one student to count some materials I had on the table, in
front of the whole class student was asked to count loudly so everyone will listen. Then I asked
another student to check the number that his classmates came out with. After that, a third student
was required to write the number on the board. Students liked the materials available on the table
which were; eggs, balls, sticks and a line with pencils so they were excited to participate. Using
manipulatives during counting was helpful.

Also using happy faces to reward participated students was a good strategy for My MST told me
that the idea of bringing materials to count was very good but it took more time than required, as
they are grade one and they are a little bit slow on doing activities. This have helped me while
planning the next lessons by reducing the number of activities.
The core part of the lesson was when I gave students the differentiation activities, the activities
were based on completing sticking and drawing until they reach the number written on the paper.
Students did a good job on this activity and my MST liked the organization of students during
doing the activities as each pairs have something to do to fit their abilities. As well as commenting on using different materials, she commented on the management while giving instructions
and checking students work as strengths points.

My MST commented on my organization while teaching and the strategies I have used to control
their behaviors which were using the happy and sad face on the board to put students names under according to their behaviors. Moreover, explaining the rules at the beginning of the class
made the class less noisy because the management of classroom applied on the very first day.

As for a weakness point, my MST has said that it was better if I developed a sense of critical
thinking to raise students skills in discussion.

The end of the lesson was to have them write the numbers from 1 to 30 to achieve the goal of
writing numbers. However, what I have learnt from this lesson is to make less activities with lots
of effort to achieve the LO and have them learn.
