Enduring Understandings

Essential Questions

Students will understand that

Students will keep considering

1. The human respiratory and circulatory

systems work together in transporting vital
substances and removing wastes to ensure our
normal bodily functions.
2. Unhealthy lifestyle, exposure to infectious
and other environmental agents increase our
susceptibility to respiratory and circulatory
problems.

Students will know

1. How are the vital substances and wastes

delivered and removed by the body?
2. How can we protect ourselves against
respiratory and circulatory system disorders?

ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE

1. Parts and functions of the respiratory and

circulatory system

AND SKILLS

Students will be skilled at

1. describing the parts and functions of the

respiratory and circulatory systems

2. Mechanism of blood transport

3. Respiratory and circulatory system disorders

2. discussing how the respiratory and

circulatory systems work together to
transport nutrients, gases, and other
molecules to and from the different parts of
the body;
3. explaining how harmful substances affect the
respiratory and circulatory systems
4. explaining how lifestyle (e.g., regular
exercise, smoking) affects the functioning of
the respiratory and circulatory systems

circulatory and respiratory systems
ROLE- You can be a:

Visual artist
Singer or composer
Columnist in a daily newspaper
Dietician or nutritionist
Physical Fitness Instructor

AUDIENCE- The general public

SITUATION- Pollution in this modern time is at its peak. Alcoholic beverages and cigarettes can
be bought about the counters in all stores and supermarkets. Traffic congestion is an everyday
problem. Our daily activities cause us a lot of stress and instant food can be bought
everywhere. You were tasked by the Department of Health (DOH) to conduct an information

drive on how diet and stressful lifestyle can affect the circulatory and respiratory systems.
PRODUCT/PERFORMANCE:

1. Make a poster slogan about how cigarette smoking and liquors can affect the
respiratory and circulatory systems
2. Compose a jingle whose lyrics or contents talk about the effect of stressful
lifestyle on the circulatory and respiratory system
3. Make a health advisory newsletter that will provide information on how diet and
lifestyle affect the circulatory and respiratory system
4. Formulate activities and prepare meals with brief and accurate explanation on how
to can keep the two organ-systems healthy
5. Present a dance exercise that is healthy for the respiratory and circulatory
systems
STANDARDS- Your product will be assessed based on the following criteria:

Accuracy of content
Organization of idea
Clarity of the message

Their task is to perform a role play that will give
emphasis on the symptoms, causes and treatment of the
disease assigned to their group.

1. Take your pulse while at complete rest for one

minute and observe your breathing pattern and
how your chest moves. Record your observations in
your notebook
2. With a partner as the recorder, jog in place for
around 2 minutes and perform 10 jumping jacks.
3. Immediately after, ask your partner to take your
pulse for another minute and observe your
breathing pattern
4. After 10 minutes of complete rest, get your pulse
rate once again. Record your observations in your
notebook.

rest after an exercise?
3. How would you describe your breathing pattern
and pulse rate before and immediately after an
exercise?

after some time?
