Ika : This is the view of nursery that being handled and organized by UiTM Landcape Facility

unit. This botany garden is cultivated by this team to provide plant for any event organized
by UiTM, faculty, or other unit in this campus These plant is cultivated totally by using soil
decompose product which being prepared by their own. Heliconia, crystostachy renda,
rhapis excelsea, exoecaaria cochinchinensis and dracaena reflexa are the example of plant
that can be found here.
Ika : Mr Khairul Idram bin Barakoh is the one of facilitator that manage the food waste in
UiTM campus Shah Alam. As the Assistant of Landscape Architect Unit, he be able cooperate with his team to solve the problem of wasted food and utilized it with commercial
value that can bring benefit to human being. Throughout seven years handling the treatment
and disposal of food waste, his team can be able generate own income source for UiTM. It is
a great innovation of this facility, very amazing
Ika : After separation process, the food waste will be put into the machine. There are four
impeller are installed in this machine to crush and grind the food particle into smaller in size.
This machine is operate 24/7. The quality is not effected even the food waste is left for
several days in the machine.
Ila : The grinded food waste will be pull out through this way and the next stage is storage
for commercialize purposes.
Ila : This is the texture of the grinded food waste. It is very small in size and coarse on hand.
If you zoom closely, there are some pieces of egg shell that not being crushed. These
product will be distributed as the feedstock for chicken.
Ila: The part of plant that not being used will undergoes a particular process to produce
decompose soil. This is one of sample of decompose soil made by Mr Khairul team
Ila : This is a sample for biogreen and natural-made product. Natural based decompose
product has been fully utilized to enhance the soil condition of pot plant. It can increase the
essential nutrient needed for the plant to growth. This is a chilly plant that being planted and
using decompose soil. Totally decompose medium soil is used. Even the insect can live
inside the soil. So how these soil is being made? Wait for the next session.
Ila : Intekma Hotel, one of supplier of food waste to Mr Khairul team. Here, we will take a
look at the dump of food waste.

Ila : now, this the dump site of untreated food waste. The food waste are already being
packed in plastic beg before being collected by UiTM contractor. There are also other
solid waste inside this space. Such a big problem may be occur if these waste is not
treated in a proper manner.
Ila : UiTM Compose Site. In this section, all the waste from tree such as leaves, stalk, dead
leaves and any part of plants are being circulated to form decompose soil.
Lisa : Lets walk around this site to take a look some picture what is going happen here.
There are two types of decompose soil product being produced here either natural made or
bio-green product. So now we at the site to prepare the natural-made and bio-green
decompose product which situated at the backyard of Perindu 3. As you can see, this is one
of natural-made decompose product which composed of dried leaves, ashes which will be
left up to two years. This is the dried leaves, the raw material for natural-made product
before being burned. Wow, it is a huge amount of leaves here. There is smoke over there. All
the waste from tree like stick, leaves and bulks are going to be burnt here before being mix
with other products. So this is the final natural-made decompose products. So thats all short
overview of this site. How these can be made, hmmmm?
Lisa : one of raw material to be prepared for bio-green decompose soil is, IMO solution. It
act as decompose bacteria which will react in the soil to enhance the quality of soil. To
prepare this solution, it is very economics. It is just combination of fruit peel, sugar palm and
rain water. As you can see in my hand, it is mango fruit skin are being used to prepare the
IMO solution.
Lisa : this is the final product for natural decompose soil before mixing with IMO solution and
rain water. It will be stored in the container for several days. Unfortunately, due to lack of
collected rain water, the bio-green decompose process is not start yet. There are only
natural made decompose soil as you can see in the screen.
Lisa : People keep asking how to reduce waste surrounding them, but who knows that, your
waste that you throw away can sustain your lifestyle. Mr Khairul has proven even food waste
that we put to our dustbin has its special magic. So as chemical engineer, me and you are
responsible to overcome this issues, hoping that this video can set a good mind to make a
step to conserve our Earth, see you next time

Ika : When we scraped off our dishes after having a large dinner meal, too full to finish we
rarely pause and think about the significance of our action. It seems routine to us, if we have
leftover food scraps that are unfit for eating, shouldnt they be thrown in the garbage? Our
routine activities unfortunately make it difficult for us to conceptualise the magnitude of
global food waste. The problem is bigger than we think.
According to World Resource Institute (WRI) about one-third of all food produced
worldwide worth around US$ 1 trillion.
As a good example to be followed, the biggest University campus in Malaysia which
well known as UiTM has set their own way how to solve this problem. Waste of tree and food
are fully utilize for its commercial purposes and can be a new source of income How it could
be?
