Fleischmanns Alliance for Business Announces

Holiday Decorating Contest for Village
Kim OBrien, President of FAB, Fleischmanns Alliance for Business, announced this week a new initiative to enhance the Village of Fleischmanns for the holiday season. I remember as a
child how exciting it was to see the Xmas decorations. There
have not been as many folks decorating as there used to be so
we came up with the idea of a contest to encourage our neighbors. Kim said.
All Village residents, businesses and organizations are eligible to
enter the contest; applications are due by December 6th and
decorations must be completed and on display from December
7th through 31st. Applications are available at the following
Fleischmanns locations: Sams Country Store, Skene Memorial
Library and The Tinderbox or download from the following Facebook pages; Fleischmanns First, FAB and Fleischmannsny.
A panel of judges, still in formation, including Glen Pedersen,
President of Central Catskill Chamber of Commerce, Jeff Teichnor, owner of Roxbury Wine and Spirits and Peggy Bellar, Keller
Williams broker, will select the best decorations in the residence and business category using the criteria of originality,
arrangement, theme and overall presentation. Judging will be
begin on December 8th.
Prizes will be awarded but shh! Only Santa knows what they
are!

FLEISCHMANNS RED LETTER NAMES

Fleischmanns Red Letter Names from
the Greater Fleischmanns Museum of Memories
Crawford Lasher,
Teacher, Principal and Insurance Broker
On April 5, 1957, Fleischmanns lost a great citizen; Crawford
Lasher, who had served for many years as a teacher and later
principal at Fleischmanns High School, died of a heart attack. He
was born and raised at the family farm up on Brush Ridge, and
was a member of the very first class to graduate from the newlybuilt Fleischmanns School in 1910. After studies at Cornell, he
returned to Fleischmanns. In 1921
he began his career at the school,
first as a teacher, and in 1942 he
was named Principal. He retired in
June of 1954, and was given a
really grand farewell dinner. Lasher briefly came out of retirement
when the school needed an interim principal shortly before he
died. He also pursued business
interests, working for a while in
insurance. He was active in the Fleischmanns-Pine Hill Rotary
Club. The Fleischmanns Museum of Memories holds a number
of items relating to him, including copies of letters he wrote to
former students serving overseas in World War II.

Fleischmanns Theater
Clean Up Complete..Ready for the Future
You may have noticed activity at the theater in the last few
weeks. Fleischmanns First volunteers gathered together to
clean out the last of the Fleischmanns estate furniture which
were being sold for fund raising for Fleischmanns First initiatives. The glassware, linens and furniture were offered for free
and have found new homes.
The group had so much energy
that they extended their mission to the two retail store
fronts in the building as well.
Thanks to the efforts of Paula
DeSimone, David Smith, Kathy
and Doug Green, Winifred
Zubin and Larry Reilly, Michelle
Sidrane, and Yvonne Reuter
the theater building is ready
for new occupants.
A special thank you to Kathy Green for her creative window
art.
Eager to know more about the theater and it possible future?
Attend the Fleischmann First Forum on Saturday, December
3rd when Main Street Restoration experts, the Dadras Brothers
will share their vision for Fleischmanns Main Street. The forum
will take place immediately following the Fleischmanns First

Dadras Architects, hired by Mark Project, will present a Main
Street Strategy for Fleischmanns and the Fleischmanns Theater. The Dadras brothers have generated a draft with ideas for
improving Main Street and ask for your input as a community.
Once completed, this strategy can serve as a road map for
future improvements on Main Street Fleischmanns. This is not
a static document. It can grow with the Village and your input
is critical.
