do not fulfill the keyboard requirements for a music degree; they count as elective credits. Students whose principal instrument
is piano take only AM 031 and 032 to fulfill their keyboard skills requirement.

*MH 306W, when taken in the junior or senior year, fullls the core curriculum WriYng Across the Curriculum requirement.
Students must also fulll the Speaking Across the Curriculum, Indianapolis Community, and Butler Cultural
Requirements. Music majors are exempt from the PerspecYves in the CreaYve Arts requirement because they will
have taken 9 hrs in the arts.
**For students whose major instrument is piano or guitar, four semesters of this requirement may be saYsed with
piano-related or guitar-related ensembles, including ES 101/301 (Chamber Music), ES 102/302 (Guitar Ensemble),
ES 313 (Accompanying), ES 423 (Two-Piano Ensemble), ES 124/324 (Jazz Ensemble), ES 127/327 (Jazz Combo),
AM 127/128 (Voice Class 1/2), or ES 108/308 (New Music Ensemble; one semester only), in consultaYon with their
academic advisor and major teacher.
Music students must agend 16 performances/events per year; for students who are student teaching, studying abroad, or in
full-Yme internships during the academic year, only 8 performances are required for that year. See the School of Music
website for distribuYon requirements.
