Course Description
The course of management is designed to discuss management theories, concepts, techniques, and
practices in the context of complex, dynamic, changing and globalizing business world. Applying
the functional or process approach to the study of management, the discussion will cover all main
management functions: planning, organizing, directing and controlling. This will equip students
with a framework for understanding and Analyzing the nature of managerial works and the
determining factors of managerial success. Application of the learning materials will be
encouraged through case discussions and other experiential assignments.
Course objective:
To provide a conceptual and theoretical knowledge about the important functions and
activities of management.

To develop critical ways of thinking for evaluating and applying a variety of concept and
techniques in managerial decision making situations through case discussions and other
experimental assignments.

To facilitate students to become an active creator of their own knowledge base by


becoming a learner through direct observations of examples of managerial behavior in
daily life.

Course Requirements
This course requires a good deal of reading, reflection, writing and class participation. You are
expected to prepare prior to each class meeting, to raise issues for thought and discussion and to
engage your fellow students in meaningful dialogue. Your willingness to explore, as well as
contribute, ideas that facilitate learning and personal development is essential. There is a
significant amount of work to do in this course. I urge you to plan your time accordingly. Please
review this syllabus carefully and note the due dates for the assignment. You should expect to
have a written assignment every week.

Attendance policy:
Class participation, group activity, quizzes are all very crucial for every student. All exams will be
designed according to class activities. So it is students best interest to attend every single class.
Inexcusable absence will be reported to registry.
Exam Rules:
There will be three exams, each weighing different point value.
No make up quiz
Make exam will be harder than schedule exam.
Any kind of unethical means might result in to termination from the enrollment according to
IUBAT laws.
Dress and Behavior Code for Students:
For male students: Trouser and full/half sleeve shirts with necktie, T-shirts with collar/golf shirt,
Suit, Blazer, Sweater, Jacket, Muffler in winter. Shawl not allowed. Polished shoes.
Sandal/Sandal shoes are not allowed, Clean shaved (if not keeping beard and/or mustache),
decent haircut, Wearing ID while in the campus.
* Presentation attires are strictly to be maintained to Suit, Tie, Dress Slacks and Dress Shirt
* Shirt/T-shirt (with collar)/golf shirt (with collar) to be tucked in

* Dress code may be relaxed for National days and ceremonial occasions.
For female students: Salwar, Kamiz and Scarf (up-to-date, preferably cotton), Saree (professional
attire not in class), Jeans, Kurta, Scarf, Skirt, Top, Scarf, Sweater, cardigan, Jacket, Muffler.
Shawl not allowed Shoes or Sandal shoes with belt and low heel. Sandals not allowed, properly
tied up hair, Limited jewelry and make-up, Wearing ID card while in the campus.

*No Tight or revealing clothing.

This chapter defines, explains and identifies the potential benefits and potential
drawbacks of planning, distinguishes between strategic and tactical plans, explains
SWOT analysis etc.

chapter.
Basic Elements of Organizing:
The elements of organizing, Designing Job, Grouping Jobs, Authority, Coordinating
Positioning, will be discussed in this chapter
Organization Change & Design:

Its nature, managing the change, areas of change in the organizations, Innovation are
main points to be discussed

Managing Human Resources:
The Environmental context of Human Resource Management, attracting Human
Resource, Developing HR, Maintaining HR, Managing labor relations, and challenges
in the changing work place will be the main points in this chapter.
