Mathematics
Students will work
on fractions by
listening to sounds.
Each sound will
create a different
fraction from math
functions.
1. Creativity and
innovation
Students
demonstrate
creative thinking,
construct
knowledge, and
develop innovative
products and
processes using
technology.
a. Apply existing
knowledge to
generate new ideas,
products, or
processes.

1. Number Sense,
Properties, and
Operations

2. Patterns, Functions,
and Algebraic
Structures

The teacher will

record a group of
students
collaborating to
work through a
problem, and
share it with
colleagues to see
how they can
improve
collaboration
among students.
5. Engage in
professional
growth and
leadership.
c. Evaluate and

Apply-students will be
applying knowledge of
fractions to a new
situation.

For younger elementary,

play drum beats, and
have the students add
how many drum beats
they heard.

Students will play a

game where they
hear a pattern, and
then need to repeat
the pattern
correctly. The
patterns will get
harder, the more
rounds there are.

Flipped
Classroom

reflect on current
research and
professional
practice on a
regular basis to
make effective
use of existing
and emerging
digital tools and
resources in
support in student
learning.

3. Analysis, Statistics,
and Probability

Students will listen

to various
soundwaves, then in
class, they will have
to graph the
soundwaves.

4. Shape, Dimension,
and Geometric
Relationships
Reading, Writing, and Communicating
Students will
collaboratively work on
a soundscape, using
only materials that can
be found in the
classroom. The
soundscape will not be
done online, but will be
completed with hands
on materials.

1. Oral Expression and

Listening

2. Reading for All

Purposes

Teachers will
assign a reading
based on the
curriculum being
taught. The
teacher will then
ask the students
to create a
soundscape based
on what they
thought of while
reading.
2. Design and
develop digital
age learning
experiences and
assessments
a. Design or adapt
relevant learning
experiences that

incorporate digital
tools and
resources to
promote student
learning and
creativity.

3. Writing and
Composition

Students will write a

descriptive paper
based on a
soundscape played
in class. The paper
will explain what the
sounds made the
student think of.
1. Creativity and
innovation
b. Create original
work as a means of
personal or group
expression.

Create-students will
produce original work
for their descriptive
piece.

4. Research and
Reasoning

Students will play a

game similar to
charades. One
student will go up in
front of a class, and
describe a sound.
The class will then
guess what the
sound is. The
student will play the
sound and see if the
class is correct.

Students will listen

to a sound on a
historical event. The
soundscape will also
include readings
that go with the
event. From these
sounds, students
will come to class,
and create a graphic
designer based on
what they know
about the event.

Social Studies
1. History

The teacher will

make a
soundscape based
on the historical
event that will be
taught. It will be
an introduction to
give students an
idea of what they
will be learning
about. The
soundscape will
be used for the
whole grade.
3. Model digital
age work and
learning.
b. Collaborate
with students,

Students will listen

to a lecture on a
historical event, and
work in groups for
class to create a
soundscape.

peers, parents,
and community
members using
digital tools and
resources to
support student
success and
innovation.
Students will study
one geographical
location, and create
a soundscape based
on what that
location is best
known for.
1. Creativity and
innovation
b. Create original
work as a means of
personal or group
expression.

2. Geography

Understand-students
will show their
understanding of a
location by being able
to describe why they
chose the sounds they
did.

3. Economics

Students will create a

business, and then
create a soundscape
that will promote their
business.
Students will have a
presidential
debate, and in the
background,
soundscapes will be
playing for each
event. Students will
create the
soundscapes in
groups.

4. Civics

Science
1. Physical Science

The teacher will

create a
thunderstorm
soundscape.
Students will be
asked to listen to
the thunderstorm
to determine how
close or far the
storm is.
1. Facilitate and
inspire student
learning and
creativity.
b. Engage

Students will listen to

various sounds, and
determine if the sound
is a solid, liquid, or gas.

students in
exploring real
world issues and
solving authentic
problems using
digital tools and
resources.
Students will listen
to various sounds
and rate them on
loudest to softest.
Students will then
research how loud
the wavelengths of
each sound are.
3. Research and
information fluency
d. Process data and
report results.

2. Life Science

Remember-students
will remember what
sounds they heard to
rate them of volume,
and to research them.

Students will fill

water bottles to
different levels, and
try to create a real
musical scale with
each water bottle.

Students will watch

a lecture about
ecosystems, then
create a soundscape
on an ecosystem,
like the rainforest.

Learning Disabilities EEOs

Students with
learning disabilities
can use
collaboration to
create soundscapes
for extra assistance.

Apply-students will be
applying knowledge to
create work in a
collaborative setting.

Students with
learning disabilities
can be given the
lecture a day in
advance to allow for
more processing
time.
Gifted and talented
students might be asked
to do further research
when creating a
soundscape.

If there is a
student who is
deaf, the teacher
will explain the
sounds, and their
soundscape will
become a
visualscape

If a non-verbal
student is playing a
game, it can be
changed so the
class has to answer
on white boards
versus verbally.

Reflection: As a teacher, I would most often use soundscapes for descriptive writing, or social studies. I think it is a great tool to
use to allow students to be very creative. Whether it is reflecting off a soundscape, or creating their own soundscape, students

can use this tool as a fun assignment that allows for imagination. Soundscapes are also a great tool because it can be modified
for any grade level. I believe that soundscapes will keep students very engaged, because children and young adults generally
love listening to music. Although I think soundscapes are a great tool to use in the classroom, I do not believe I would use it very
often because it is not a quick or easy lesson plan to create.
