ABSTRACT

The Correlation between Students Habit in Watching English Movie and Their Vocabulary
Mastery (A Correlative Study of the Second Grade Students of SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 1
Menggala in Academic Year of 2016/2017)9
There are a number of elements of language learning. Vocabulary is the most
obvious components and the first thing applied in language as communication. According to
Hornby vocabulary is the total number of words, which makes up the language. It can be
defined, caught, as the word we teach in the foreign language. Learning process is not
always in the class, learning can be done everywhere. Students also do not always face with
the teacher to teaches vocabulary. Students can learn at anywhere, any time. Students
watching English movie habit possibly way to enrich their vocabulary.
Finding out whether there was any significant correlation of the students watching movie
habit and their vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMA Muahmmadiyah 01
Menggala and what the most affected aspect after being taught by using watching movie
strategic is the objectives of this research. The researcher used one group pre test post test
design. The sample of this research was XI A at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Menggala as the
instrument of the research, the listening comprehension test was used. Repeated measure ttest was used to analyze the data in which the significance was determined by p<0.05.

The result showed that the pretest mean score was 58.56 while the posttest mean score was
69.42. It showed that there was a significant increase from the first to the second mean score.

It had increased to be 11.84. So that, the result proves that the the students score were
significantly different (p<0.05). It means that the two hypothesis proposed in this bachelor
thesis were accepted. The researcher then found that determining main idea is the most
affected aspect after being taught by using collaborative strategic reading.
