UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


The organize your rock lesson is part of a unit covering earth and space sciences major
geological events that occur over eons or brief moments in time continually shaping and
reshaping the surface of the Earth, resulting in continuous global change as described in TN state
science standard 7.0.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:

Given a checklist handout, TLW will check that they understand each item being asked and then will
provide an example of their understanding. (Blooms Taxonomy: knowledge)
Given a computer and an application software called Kidspiration, TLW will create a graphic organizer
that demonstrates their understanding of rocks with a score of four out of four on the rubric. (Blooms
Taxonomy: synthesis)
Given a website called Prezi, TLW will create a graphic organizer that demonstrates their understanding
of rocks with a score of four out of four on the rubric. (Blooms Taxonomy: synthesis)
Student Participation
The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate a clear understanding of the different types of rocks
and who studies them by creating graphic organizers.

Technology Integration:
Students will use the software application above and the website above as resources to create a
graphic organizer and a presentation. Kidspiration software application will be used to create a graphic
organizer. Prezi will also be used to create a graphic organizer. Students, upon completing the activity,
will save their work to a shared Dropbox folder for their class. A sample of these products are available.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of different types of rocks by providing graphic
organizers that contains information about rocks.
Academic language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
This lesson is a continuation of TN Sciences standard 7.0.
We will refer to the graphic organizers created here as we continue to explore different types of
rocks.

I am aware that this lesson will be differentiated for student who did not master the objectives and for
those who are ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course, and are not
part of this particular lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction:
-Begin by giving students the handout checklist on day 1.
-Give students ten minutes to complete the handout on day 1.
- Provide students with the information and directions they will need to complete each
assignments on day one and day two.
- The information given on the first day will be for the Kidspiration assignment and will be
completed on the first day.
- The information given on the second day will be for the Prezi assignment and will be completed
on the second day.

Procedures:
Prior to the computer (10 minutes - Day 1)

Teacher Procedures:
1. Give handouts to students.
2. Allow the students ten minutes
to complete the assignment.

Student Procedures:
1. Students will complete the handout
provided by answering each question and
providing an example on the handout.

3. Monitor and assist as needed.


At the computer (40 minutes- Day 1)

1. Have students turn on their
computer and click on the
