Yeich, S. (1994). The politics of ending homelessness. Lanham, MD: University Press of
America.
(Yeich)
This source very much highlights the effects of different political
changes within government and the wealth divide. This source talks
about all the changes we have made within government and how it has
negatively affected the lower class. It also discusses the effects of
corporations on the lower class. Companies moving jobs overseas and
giving less pay to workers has certainly caused an increase in poverty.
The less jobs available, the more competition there will be for the
remaining jobs.
This is one of the main sources in my semester long project. It provides
valuable talking points for me to use. I can use the direct quotes of
different people that are included in this book. The text has so many
different aspects to it that it would be very hard to cover all of them.
They cover entirely different aspects of government and provide deep
analysis to many aspects of political changes.
I cannot find any direct information about the author, as this was her
only published book. Looking at the book and other credible critics, it is
safe to assume the credibility of the book. Every source is cited in the
back of the book so we know where the information is coming from.
This book is a staple research tool in the field of homelessness and I
am very happy I got the chance to research into it.

Hanson, L. K., & Essenburg, T. J. (2014). The new faces of American poverty: A reference guide
to the great recession. Santa Barbara, CA: ABC-CLIO.
(Hanson & Essenburg)
This source dives into every aspect of The Great Depression. This book
is separated into two parts and talks about the past, present, and the
future of each major point of the article. One of the most beneficial
parts of this text where the use of graphs and pictures. It put into
perspective seeing different bar graphs or numbers to compare it to
traditional reading.

2
I will also use this source for my semester long project. I may also be
able to scan different graphs from the book and include them into my
presentation. There is more information in this book then I will ever
need to know about the great recession but It was interesting to
consider the real reasons to why the great recession was as bad as it
was.
This reference guide was probably the most researched and well
documented text I have ever read. Each section was divided into parts
and the citations to where the information came from was following
each section. Over 23 different authors contributed to this reference
book about poverty.

The State of Homelessness in America 2016. (n.d.). Retrieved November 13, 2016, from
http://www.endhomelessness.org/library/entry/SOH2016
(The State of Homelessness)
This website analyzes the state of homelessness in America by state
and subpopulations. The source also provides specific numbers of
homeless people by state and ethnicity. It is interesting to see the
distribution of the homeless by state and see where the crisis is most
common. There is also information about government programs
introduced to stop homelessness in America and reform strategies. The
reports used were very informative.
This website was the first I found that provided numbers that were of
recent years. The two books I found were published in the late 90s.
This source provided up to date statistics and was much more
interesting to read current stories of people rather than stories that
happened decades ago. The problem appears to be getting improved
though. More and more people every year are being taken off the
streets and getting off their feet.
I think this information came from a very reputable source. The website
was part of an organization that wants to completely end homeless. It
was published by the National Alliance to End Homelessness. I will
continue using this site to find more information on my topic.

General Homelessness Facts. (n.d.). Retrieved November 13, 2016, from
http://greendoors.org/facts/general-data.php
(General Homelessness Facts)

3
This website provided general information and statistics about
homelessness. This was not a very big article so the information was
very general and not went into depth. It provided the definition of
homelessness and some general statistics to what different definitions
of homelessness are. Some of those are chronic or temporary
homelessness.
I dont think I will use much information from this website in my
semester long project. There was not enough information to be able to
put much of it into my project. The only think I will probably use is the
different definitions of homeless and what It means to be in each
category. There are so many different classifications of homeless.
I think this website was also very reputable. The website has a great
backstory and has helped thousands of people find homes.

More than 500,000 people homeless in the United States: Report. (2015). Retrieved November
13, 2016, from http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-homelessnessidUSKCN0T908720151120
(More than 500,000)
This article is mostly comparing the different statistics of homelessness throughout the
years. It explains the overall numbers of homelessness in the United States. All the
information in this article has been cross referenced. The United States department of
housing and urban development keeps statistics about all the homeless people in
America. It was very interesting to read all the information this article had to offer.
I think I will include some of these statistics in my final project. They are comparable to
ones found in my other research sources. I will use the quote about the amount of people
living in their cars which is another version of homelessness.
Eric Johnson is a journalist from the Seattle area. His main stories covered are the reelection of President Obama and homelessness in America. His writing seems to be very
authentic and detail packed.

H. (2014). Homelessness in North Carolina. Retrieved November 13, 2016, from
https://demography.cpc.unc.edu/2013/10/24/homelessness-in-north-carolina/
(H.)
This article focuses in on the issues of homelessness directly in North Carolina. Single
men make up over half the homeless population in North Carolina. This article also
describes the distribution of veteran homeless in North Carolina. The source also includes
an interactive graphic that includes distribution by County in North Carolina.

I am going to use this source in my semester long project. I want to dive into some of the
personal aspects of homelessness in North Carolina. I feel like the audience will are more
about the information presented if it is about the state they are currently living in. It is
important to show information about your own state when information is available.
I think this source is very reputable. Here is a quote from their main page:
Carolina Demography is a demographic consulting service at the Carolina Population Center at UNCChapel Hill. We provide a full array of demographic data and research services for North Carolina
businesses, foundations, government agencies, schools, not-for-profit organizations, and many more.

Veteran Homelessness Facts. (n.d.). Retrieved November 13, 2016, from
http://greendoors.org/facts/veteran-homelessness.php
(Veteran Homelessness)
This source displays facts about veterans and their relation to the crisis of homelessness.
One fact stated is that about 53% of homeless veterans have disabilities. This shows that
the most veterans have something preventing them from holding a job for a long period.
Over two thirds of homeless veterans have an alcohol or substance abuse problem. This
puts into perspective how mentally handicapped veterans are. It is a problem that needs to
be fixed, and people are ignoring this problem.
This source is going to be a major piece of my semester long project. The main research
topics I am personally assigned are about veterans and the treatment of homeless
veterans. People put them in the same category as drug addicts, but they could just be
mentally handicapped.
I think this source is a very reputable one. Green doors seem like a very popular
organization that offers information on all types of homelessness. A lot of my articles are
from this website, and all the information I find is going right into my project. I am so
happy I found this site and will continue to use it in the future.
8
National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. (n.d.). Retrieved November 13, 2016, from
http://nchv.org/index.php/news/media/background_and_statistics
(National Coalition)
The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans is one of the most prominent organizations
to fight veterans in poverty and homelessness. This article just states a variety of statistics
and facts about homeless veterans. This article does have information that others do not
have however. This site provides information on how we, individuals, can impact the
lives of homeless people.

5
This source makes the point that veteran homelessness is a major problem in America and
there is multiple groups trying to fight it. They have actual solutions to the problem
unlike other sources only providing statistics.
This source about veterans is probably the most backed up source I have. Millions of
dollars are donated to this foundation to end veteran homelessness. I have even donated
to this coalition before.

9
Homeless Families with Children. (n.d.). Retrieved November 13, 2016, from
http://www.nationalhomeless.org/factsheets/families.html
(Homeless Families with Children)
This article is about homeless people with children. After reading this article it is one the
saddest aspects about the project. Children are sometimes born into homeless, or they are
dragged into the situation by their parents. It is a situation that they cannot even help,
because they have no way of fixing it. The situation can get worse if their parents have a
drug or alcohol problem and their parents are constantly seeing their parents doing these
things.
Besides veterans, another major aspect of our project is about the children in the cycle of
homelessness. It is very disappointing to read about this and researching it puts a different
perspective on things. They children cannot help the situation at all. It is different to see
an adult homeless on the street, but seeing a 8 year old with nothing but clothes on his
back is very disappointing.
This source is a like to the one about veteran homelessness. This site is a very reputable
foundation and receives millions of dollars to help people get out of the cycle. The source
list is very well organized.
10
Global Homelessness Statistics - Homeless World Cup. (n.d.). Retrieved November 13, 2016,
from https://www.homelessworldcup.org/homelessness-statistics/
(Global Homelessness)
This source is different than any other I have researched yet. It provided information not
just about homelessness in the United States, but the whole world. It explains poverty
lines and different aspects of homelessness around the globe. It was very interesting to
compare the different living conditions that these people face on different countries.

6
I dont think I will be able to use this source in my project. It was very interesting, but
our project hones in on the topic of homelessness in America. This site was the most
interesting to me however, because after hours of research on the United States, it was
interesting to see different countries.
This source was very informative and is backed up by some very important companies.
Some of these companies are FifaPro and PeopleMakeGascow. Also the Scottish
government sponsors the site so I am sure the information is reliable.
