ABSTRACT

The effect of Banduras theory aplication toward first pregnant womans knowledge
about cord care

Introduction : The correct cord care will accelerate the release of the cord and
healing process to avoid infection. The recomended way of WHO is using a clean gauze
bandage, frequently. Today, many local midwife assistant do that, due to lack of knowledge of
mothers about cord care. Bandura's theory is social learning theory, points of theory is modeling
that used to facilitate demonstration cord care to the respondent. Thus, this research aims to
analyze the effect of Bandura's theory applications toward first pregnant womens knowledge
about cord care.
Method : The study used pre - experimental design with one group pretest posttest
without comparison group (controls). The population are 43 first pregnancy women, taken by
simple random sampling. Questionairs and job sheet were used as an instrument and the result
analized by Wilcoxon test.
Results and Analysis : The Result showed almost respondents knowledge before
given treatment in low category gained 41.48 % and after given treatment almost respondents
knowledge in high category gained 60.46 %. The Wilcoxon test analysis results obtained Z =
-4.203 and p = 0.000, that meaning there is effect of Bandura 's theory applications to the first
preganant women's knowledge .
Conclusion : It can be concluded that there are significant effect of Bandura's theory
aplication to first pregnant womens knowledge of cord care. Giving demonstrations by
application of Bandura's theory is expected to further increase the respondents' knowledge and
can perform maintenance independently cord care.
