Ludolf-Hermann Emmanuel Georg Kurt Werner
Alvensleben enlisted in the Prussian cadet corps in 1911,
and in 1918 joined the 10th (Magdeburg) Hussars Regiment, but did not ght in World War I. He temporarily
served in a paramilitary Freikorps unit in 1920. Between
1923 and July 1929, he was a member of the nationalist
Stahlhelm organization.
After the First World War, Alvensleben graduated with
a degree in agronomy. Upon the death of his father in
December 1912, the familys manor at Schochwitz had
become his own. In 1923 he also rented Storkau manor
in the Altmark. He wed Melitta von Guaita on May 3,
1924; the marriage produced four children. He also later
fathered a natural son raised as a Lebensborn child.
