Choosing an ERP

On June 2011, PT Semen Indonesia Tbk started to apply ERP for supporting
business process. It first application was in financial section. Then ERP was
implemented in selling section and manufacturing section of PT Semen Indonesia
Tbk (PT Semen Gresik, Tbk). Actually, firms had used in-house development
application base on Foxbase and Sybase since 1989. But, this application is just
support business operational in a level department/section. Finally, management
of PT Semen Indonesia Tbk decided to find new solution (a real solution) to
create an integrated application from upstream to downstream. In 2001 PT
Semen Indonesia Tbk decided to use ERP JD Edwards solution. Because of it is a
Best Practice solution, flexible, and easy for implementation.
Advantage after Implementing ERP
After implementing ERP, PT Semen Indonesia Tbk has a several
improvement (positive effect), including:
1. Business process efficiency.
2. Integration in business process (operation, production, and distribution).
3. Be able to present a Financial Statement accurately and quickly.
4. Improve employee productivity.
Constraint of Implementing ERP
Beside the advantage have been achieved, implementation of ERP in PT
Semen Indonesia Tbk has a several constraint, which is faced by firm.
1. Technical, including language problems and changing from hard-copy model
to be display model.
2. Culture, ERP implementation requires changes have to be done.
3. Politic, constraint was from inside of IT department and the outside.
