INTERNSHIP PLAN

Since this was my very first internship, I had very little idea of what to expect from the
workplace and getting around and knowing everyone. Since my project was on the topic of
budget allocation, my main task was to look over the documents that my seniors would send
me for correction, and forwarding them to the various functional departments for their
signatures. Often I would have to take care of the office memos that have to be distributed
among the functional departments.
Since my guide was the General Manager of UJVNL, he would direct me to the various tasks
that I had to routinely do, such as taking photo-copies, getting documents stamped, viz.
4

Consolidation Sheet, Cash Outlay Sheet, Salary related transactions, Third Party Payments,
etc.
During my tenure of six weeks in the organisation I also learned about the tendering process,
administrative approval and financial approval. These tasks would often entail the cumulative
efforts if the various departments and the GM made sure that I was present to at least get a
brief idea about the tasks handled by the organisation.
I also visited Chibro Hydro plant in the fifth week of the internship located at Dakpatthar,
Uttarakhand. It was an under-ground power plant and I saw the manpower and resources used
in the plant. I was eager to take photos during my visit but since it was quite a sensitive area,
photography was banned and I was only allowed to stay there for an hour.

METHODOLOGY

I worked at UJVNL for six weeks, and below is the week by week summary of the work I did
there:

WEEK 1

The first week acted as an ice-breaker and took some time adjusting to the new work routine,
something that I was never used to. I studied UJVNLs structure, areas of operations and its
financial needs like capital allocation and its sources, budgeting and tax appropriation, etc.
Since the work was new to me my industry guide, Mr. ..explained how the
industry worked and how power generation worked in Uttarakhand. I got to know that
Uttarakhand is generally well-equipped when it comes to power and in often cases states like
Haryana and Punjab would borrow power from Uttarakhand.

WEEK 2

The second week was similar to what I did in the first week, but I got better at the routine
tasks. I conducted a detailed study of various functions performed in finance and accounts
with specific focus on resource mobilization function in UJVNL
7

Resource mobilisation is one of the key areas of UJVNL, as previously mentioned it lends
energy to neighbouring states. And that often entails maneuevering resources like manpower,
equipments, etc

WEEK 3

By the third week, i studied in detail the procedure being followed for the internal audit of the
various accounting units and the procedure followed at central payment and budget
departments at corporate office.
I was involved in making sure that the income and expenditure shown in thr books was
according to the books maintained on the company books

WEEK 4
9

I studied preparation and finalisation of Balance Sheet, Statement of Profit & Loss, Cash
Flow Statement and notes thereon.
I also studied applicability of accounting standards on above statements.

WEEK 5
10

In the penultimate week, I visited Chibro Hydro Plant located at Dakpatthar, Dehradun. I also
studied about Salary processing and pension processing in detail. I also did a stringent
overview of operation & maintenance budget.

WEEK 6
11

In my final week, I completed all my pending work and collected all the data needed for my
research project. The General Manager was really helpful in this regard, and he provided me
with the hard copies of all the documents regarding the company.

12

FEEDBACK OF THE COMPANY

The total number of employees in UJCN is..During my tenure as an intern I found the
work environment to be very friendly and not like the lethargic work environment one would
associate government organisations with. They have different departments for different work
13

schedule and the work-place was quite diverse with various ethnicities working under one
roof, with good number of women workers.

14

CONCLUSION

Life as an intern was completely different to what I had in mind before joining the
organisation, and I was quite unsure of what I had to expect from the organisation and my

15

own engagement with the organisation. However, the first couple of days took a bit getting
used to, but the friendly environ acted like a catalyst to me giving my best performance in the
organisation.
The workplace was a fun and jovial one, filled with sincere and hard-working souls. The
employees were much older than me and it was their wisdom and the valuable inputs that
they provided during the SIP that helped me immensely.
Most days would follow the same routine and it were similar tasks that I was assigned every
day. However, it was the occasional change of routine that helped in breaking the workplace
monotony. One such incident was my visit to Chobro Hydro plant in Dakpatthar and it was
quite a different experience altogether as it gave me practical exposure to the work done in
the field.
I am quite sure that these six weeks and the experience gained within would surely help me
in my future and I would definitely like to be a part of UJVNL in the near future.
