The results of FT-IR showed that there was no distinc-tive
change in absorption peak positions of the CNC compared with
those of the mulberry fiber, which indicates that the acid hydrol-ysis of mulberry fiber did not affect the chemical structure of the cellulose fragments (Haafiz, Eichhorn, Hassana, & Jawaid, 2013). However, the intensity of peaks of the mulberry CNC was higher than those of native fiber, which indicates that the degree of crys-tallinity of CNC was higher than that of cellulose fiber (Noor, Ishak, & Ibrahim, 2003). This was further conformed by the XRD analysis. The FT-IR spectrum of CNC was similar to that of CMF in all wave numbers, which indicated that the main cellulose structure has been maintained after acid hydrolysis. In the case of CNC, the peak intensity was higher than that of CMF, which indicated that the degree of crystallinity of the cellulose of CNC was higher than that of CMF 17] Noor AR, Ishak A, Ibrahim A. Spektrum FTIR dari serat nanokristal selulosa eceng gondok
This was further conformed by the XRD analysis.
