Configuration Overview
Background

Located at the joint of PSTN network and IP network, TG (Trunk

Gateway) can access both SS7 and PRI trunk subscribers. It is
mainly responsible for accessing PSTN subscribers to NGN and perform mutual conversion between PSTN voice/fax and IP voice/fax.
Currently, TG generally adopts H.248 protocol to interconnect with
SS control devices.
Figure 1 shows the location of TG in NGN.

H.248 Protocol

OF

TG

IN

NGN

H.248 protocol controls and monitors the bearing connection of

MG. Therefore, it abstracted and described the internal objects of
the MG and introduced the concept of gateway connection model.
Connection model refers to the logical entities or objects controlled
by MGC in MG (Media Gateway Controller). Its the core of message exchange between MGC and MG. MGC controls the connection
model on MG by commands and MG reports various information of
the model, including status, parameters and ability.
The basic architecture of the model consists of termination and
context.
1. Termination is a logical entity which can send and receive one
or several kinds of media streams.
It consists of many attribute descriptions which are combined
as a group of descriptive symbols contained in commands, such
as media stream parameters, bearing parameters, and possibly-included Modem. Termination can correspond to a physical
entity or a virtual entity. Once accessed to a gateway, a physical termination can exist permanently (so-called semi-permanent termination), for example, a PSTN trunk interface or a
telephone interface or PBX interface on AG. Meanwhile, a virtual termination (temporary termination) corresponds to an information stream, such as a RTP voice stream. It depends on
calls, once a call is terminated, this voice stream will die out.
In applications, a termination will be allocated a Termination
ID after it has been established.
2. Made up of a group of terminations, context represents the
relations between the terminations in the group.

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

Chapter 1 TG Interconnection Configuration

One context can include multiple terminations. The maximum

number of terminations varies because the characteristics of
MG services are different. One context must contain one terminal at least; Meanwhile, one terminal can only belong to
one context at a time. If a context contains more than two
terminals, it will describe topological structure and other media mixed/switched parameters.
Overall
Configuration
Relations

Figure 2 show the overall flow of ZXSS10 SS1b configuration. In

deployment, operators can adjust these steps or configuration
items based on actual situation. But this modification must conform to the configuration sequence of basic data-interconnection
data-service data-application data.
The configuration of TG
connection is in the interconnection data stage.

applied, the SoftSwitch periodically sends the
authentication detection event. If the gateway
does not pass the authentication, the SS forces
the gateway to exit the service.

249DIFFSERV

Used for the service controlling media.

255RTCP

Used for QoS statistics. When the conversation

begins, the calling/called parties receive a
message indicating the statistical process
starts. If the QoS feature is required, this
packet should be configured; and meanwhile,
in the configuration of global services, select
the parameter in association with the QoS
statistics feature.
