Skeletal System Lab Report

Daniella Hill
In this lab report, there will be a series of data cover over the Skeletal System. In this lab
report there is a histology of the bone (see figure 1) which is shown from a microscopic view and
points out four labels that are visible. In the figure you will see the haversian canal, lamella,
lacuna, and the canaliculi. The bone is a connective tissue and will point out the matrix. Next
there is a bone matrix data table (see table 1) which is three different chicken bones. One is
soaked in vinegar, one baked and one fresh. The table will show which of the chicken bones
contained collagen matrix or inorganic salt. The table also shows the different diseases the bone
may have.
Further into the lab report, there is a force and pressure data table(see table 2A & 2B). To
get the data for that you place your barefoot into a bucket of water and onto a piece of graph
paper to get the area. There were three trials taken in this lab. Each were taken of a different
shoe. To get the force the student would walk in this case, onto the force plate and got the force
of the right and left foot with each of the shoes that were used. To get the pressure the student
would trace out the shoe of their choice and calculate the coverage that shoe has on a graph
paper. Then the student would divide force by the area to get the pressure. There is also a bar
graph that shows the average pressure (see figure 2). The bar graph comes from the force and
pressure data table. This lab report also contains a force graph (see figure 3) that was taken by
the force plates while the testee walked across them. The force plates can take any force by any
form of movement such as walking jumping or standing.
The last thing that will be covered in this lab report this the infographic over
osteoporosis (see figure 4). The infographic is showing different types of information over
osteoporosis. It shows the bone remodeling cycle and bone physiology. It shows how genetics
could play a role in getting this disease or the day to day things a person does that could be a
problem in obtaining osteoporosis.
